This is just one more example of a Tucker-Carlson-esque pattern of doing anything he can to avoid showing sympathy to Israel and the Jews. ...
Vance: "Today we remember the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust, the millions of stories of individual bravery and heroism, and one of the enduring lessons of one of the darkest chapters in human history: that while humans create beautiful things and are full of compassion, we're also capable of unspeakable brutality. And we promise never again to go down the darkest path."

I made a response. After 56 minutes it is still pending. Am I missing anything here? My attempted post:
I read J.D. Vance’s statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day and saw nothing wrong with it. Of course, he was talking about the Jews. Did you think he was talking about Puerto Ricans?
Irresponsible charges of antisemitism are just as bad as irresponsible charges of racism. In each case, they are both stupid and hateful.
Of course, some people will only read the headline and think Vance did something wrong. American Thinker owes J.D. Vance a big fat apology.

As I understand it, Catholics and Gypsies were also killed during The Holocaust. I could be wrong. But, if that’s the case, why are they never mentioned? Are their lives less sacred?

I would like just once for someone to recognize the Holodmor, the 25 Million Ukrainians that Stalin and his Russian Communists starved to death long before the holocaust.
Somehow, that just never seems to get brought up.

American Thinker is practically an Israeli mouthpiece.

Vance: "Today we remember the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust"
How isn't that a reference to Jews that lost their lives in the Holocaust?
The Holocaust exclusively refers to Jews that were subjected to genocide by the Nazis.
This anti-Vance crusade is laughable and as woke as anything the left has come up with.

I am a huge fan of American Thinker. WTF is going on with approving and posting that opinion piece?
What a blithering bunch of tripe.
Even the stupid unequivocal statement that says Vance is a “Groyper”.
The person who wrote that has a clear vendetta and hatred of Vance.

Articles like this are one reason why younger voters are drifting into anti-semitism.

We all know that.
But the Jews were the main focus of the mass murders

Did Vance forget to mention Ukrainians on Holodomor Memorial Day? Anti-Christian!
I almost said that in my still pending (1 hour now) post on American Thinker. I decided to keep things simple.

Of course all the lives are sacred.
The extermination program killed about 11 or 12 million, of which. 6 million were Jews.

https://x.com/i/grok/share/7869e2599ed64c7e958878c107f619b5More Jews were not murdered in the Holocaust than non-Jews—if comparing the specifically targeted Jewish victims of the genocide (the core of what is defined as the Holocaust) to the total number of non-Jewish victims killed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators for racial, political, ideological, or other reasons between 1933 and 1945.
The widely accepted scholarly consensus, supported by institutions like the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) and Yad Vashem, is:
- Approximately 6 million Jews were systematically murdered in the Holocaust (the genocide specifically targeting Jews as the central group for total annihilation under the "Final Solution").
- Millions of non-Jews were also murdered by the Nazis for various reasons, including:
- Roma and Sinti (estimates often 250,000–500,000)
- People with disabilities (around 250,000–300,000 in the T4 euthanasia program and related killings)
- Poles (non-Jewish Polish civilians, often ~1.8–2 million targeted for ethnic reasons or mass executions)
- Soviet prisoners of war (millions died in captivity, with ~3 million non-Jewish Soviet POWs among broader war deaths)
- Jehovah’s Witnesses, gay men, political opponents, and others (tens to hundreds of thousands in each category)
When adding up the documented non-Jewish victims of Nazi persecution (excluding general war casualties like battlefield deaths or broad civilian bombing deaths), the total reaches several million—often estimated in the range of 5–11 million or more depending on how inclusively one counts groups like Soviet civilians/POWs under Nazi ideological/racial policies.Authoritative sources emphasize:
- The Holocaust is defined primarily as the genocide of the Jews (~6 million), with "millions of others" persecuted and killed alongside them.
- The popular "11 million total victims" figure (6 million Jews + 5 million non-Jews) is not accurate and has been debunked by major institutions as originating from Simon Wiesenthal but lacking solid evidence; the non-Jewish persecution figure is real but not precisely 5 million in that neat breakdown.
- If including all Nazi-caused deaths from racial/ideological persecution (not just battlefield or general war deaths), non-Jewish victims likely exceed the Jewish death toll.
In short: Jewish victims numbered ~6 million, while non-Jewish victims of Nazi murder/persecution (narrowly defined) numbered in the many millions—meaning more non-Jews were killed overall by the Nazi regime, though the Jewish genocide was uniquely systematic and intended to eradicate an entire people group. The distinction matters because the term "Holocaust" (or Shoah) centers on the Jewish experience, while the broader Nazi crimes included massive additional atrocities against other groups.

He was talking about Jews, Gypsies, Handicapped people, Polish elites, POWs, Catholic priests, Lutherans who didn't know when to shut up. I knew an old Catholic Ukrainian lady who had the misfotune to have been in both Communist AND Nazi caps. (The Nazis treated her better, and even saved her infant daughter from drowning). She wasn't executed, of course, but the enslavement and execution was both broad and deep.

--- "As I understand it, Catholics and Gypsies were also killed during The Holocaust. I could be wrong."
You are not wrong at all. Add in a number of other groups too.
--- "...if that's the case, why are they never mentioned? Are their lives less sacred?"
To some, yes. Less sacred. But then today with rampant abortion and euthanasia and the "compassionate" release of recidivist murderers who murder again, not to mention the toll from wars in many places, life is not sacred to many, even to those enlightened intellectuals and high-minded ethicists and so many in the political classes.
For too many, life is not sacred. Sad.

Catholics weren’t killed because they were Catholics. Only Jews and Gypsies were killed because of their ethnic group afaik. Of course Catholic is not an ethnic group.
