Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Rasheed Walker was arrested Friday morning at LaGuardia Airport in New York after authorities say he attempted to check a bag containing a handgun and ammunition. Walker, 25, was taken into custody at the airport's Terminal C after telling a Delta Air Lines employee that his luggage contained a locked box holding a firearm, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Post.
Port Authority police were alerted and searched the bag, where they found a 9mm Glock pistol and 36 rounds of ammunition secured inside the locked case.
Walker was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminal possession of a firearm. He later appeared in Queens County Criminal Court on the gun charge and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on March 19.
Walker's attorney, Arthur Aidala, said the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding and that the firearm was legally licensed in Wisconsin, adding that Walker was unaware he could not travel with it in New York.
"It was in a locked box and he disclosed it to the people at the airport," Aidala told the New York Post. "He told a person from Delta he was traveling with a firearm. He mistakenly thought because he had a licensed firearm and it was in a locked box that he was able to travel with it. We are confident the case will be dismissed."

No...in checked baggage and disclosed to airline. Perfectly legal anywhere in the US...oh wait, this was New York.
If at all possible avoid traveling to Communist Blue States.
I can’t imagine having to use public transportation unarmed.
But he did tell the employee he had a weapon in his bags. The Employee called the police.
He done messed up. No sympathy for a Green Bay Packer.
What is this thing called a “license”?
"...he attempted to check a bag containing a handgun and ammunition...[he told] a Delta Air Lines employee that his luggage contained a locked box holding a firearm"
He was going to a peaceful protest
He did… and they called the police. New York is rabid and regularly ignores the federal law and makes arrests. They have even done it when someone was on a direct flight from say, Florida to New Hampshire and the plane diverted to NYC for some reason. It was in checked bags and they passengers had to claim bags. He was arrested!
They’ve had a case on this go to the Supreme Court and rule in favor of the innocent traveler. But places like New York and New Jersey simply ignore it and keep on arresting.
“ say he attempted to check a bag containing a handgun and ammunition. ”
He was following the rules for transporting a firearm. In checked bags, locked, unloaded, with ammo locked in a different container.
What he did was to bring a firearm into NY. And then trying to get out of NY with it.
It’s a bullshit charge for someone trying to do the right thing.
With all due respect - you are wrong in this assertion. NY considers handgun possession without permit as a Class-E felony charge. If you are knowingly in possession of a firearm without a license, you can be charged pursuant to New York Penal Law section 265.01-b
I'm an NJ resident, NY two miles to my north. I can't carry when I need veterinarian services because it's 150 yards inside NY border.
There's a well-known story of a chaplain from Utah?, whose flight diverted from a state where he was permitted to possess and was covered by Safe-Harbor Federal rules of transport. He had to claim his luggage in NY and stay over for next flight to his destination and was summarily arrested, imprisoned and used as a tool for the politicians to parade like a trophy. FOR MONTHS. NY is despicable to firearms owners and will spare no effort to destroy lives and families in the name of gun control.
It’s like MA. I can carry anywhere it’s legal. But don’t carry in Boston.

MA is a shall issue state.
“We are confident the case will be dismissed.”
Ya right…in New Yorkistan?
NY says you are not protected by federal traveling rules if your destination is in NY. Over the years there have been several cases of people arrested because they got stranded on a layover and took possession of their luggage to go to a hotel. LaGuardia airport employees watch for when this happens to someone with a gun in checked luggage and call the cops.
It is New York City ...
A victimless crime...
No, it was in his checked baggage, properly stowed and locked per Delta’s security precautions, and he notified them of same. I’ve done that frequently and it’s never a problem. Of course, I haven’t traveled to NYC.
Just tell the prosecutors that you will take this all the way to the USSC and they will fold. The local authorities most certainly do not want to risk their own laws getting overturned there as violations of the 2nd Amendment. It seems that this is a draconian enforcement of an unconstitutional law against a black guy that was clearly trying to do the right thing in declaring that a secured gun was in his checked luggage.
If the locals pursue this, it will only serve to turn more of the black community against the Democrats.
