Within weeks of Zohran Mamdani being sworn into office in New York City, homeless encampments have popped back up in Manhattan after he vowed on the campaign trail to stop clearing them away.
The democratic socialist, who took office on the first of the year, said in December he would stop the destruction of homeless encampments in the city - a hallmark of the previous administration led by Eric Adams.
'They are simply pushing New Yorkers who are living in the cold to another place where they will live in the cold,' Mamdani said at the time.
In the 23 days Mamdani has been in City Hall, encampments have popped up in Manhattan, including in the Upper West Side, Hell's Kitchen, and near the United Nations.
An East Village encampment showed a large display of suitcases, office chairs, trash bags, and tarps, among other items lined up along a graffitied wall.
Another in Chinatown showed two stolen shopping carts filled with reusable bags, trash bags, and more near Columbus Park.
As the days go on, more and more encampments are littering the streets - something rarely seen during the Adams Administration.
In 2022, Adams called for an initial sweep of 200 encampments when he launched his policy.
In 2025, he announced a $650million, five-year project to combat street homelessness and mental illness, which included more 'safe haven' beds - an alternative to the shelter system.
He also employed an outreach program to help get homeless people into shelters, which Mamdani criticized as ineffective.
Mamdani said Adams' approach to the homelessness crisis in the Big Apple just forcing unhoused New Yorkers to pack up shop and move to a different outdoor location.

Hahahaha
Embrace the suck.
😁
Actually all these third world wealthies are used to slums and great wealth coexisting. This is their normal.
I guess free money, food and healthcare is an upgrade, then.
It’s all part of the plan. Import vermin, human and animal, legalize drugs and prostitution, graffiti and vandalism follows, followed closely by major crimes. Businesses close, property values plummet. Predatory investors buy up huge swaths at bargain prices and own everything.
Then their private police agencies crack down, beat heads and kill the vermin, businesses come back and then rents skyrocket once everyone is locked in.
You are probably right - maybe it will stop the stench until they thaw out...if you’ve never been close to a truly homeless person who hasn’t bathed in a year, you haven’t had your sense of smell tortured...
Thanks to open-borders George W Bush
AND the Lying Kenyan +afterwards) there
were a LOT of people sidelined in 2008
And the impact was Global
It was life-changing for me
And definitely not in a good way
Humans lived in tents for tens of thousands of years
Becoming a tent dweller is actually a reversion to the human norm
Progress has promoted reversion
I gave a ride to a guy about
17 years ago to his homeless
camp near the railroad tracks
Poor guy smelled like he’d been
dumpster-diving, literally
But he behaved himself and
appreciated the ride
This IS NOT something I recommend
that women do at all
It was very rare even for me
THIS IS a tough one:
Matthew 25:31-46
21st Century King James Version
31 “When the Son of Man shall come in His glory and all the Holy Angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory.
32 And before Him shall be gathered all nations, and He shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats.
33 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, ‘Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 For I hungered, and ye gave Me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took Me in;
36 naked, and ye clothed Me; I was sick, and ye visited Me; I was in prison, and ye came unto Me.’
37 Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when saw we Thee hungering and fed Thee, or thirsty and gave Thee drink?
38 When saw we Thee a stranger and took Thee in, or naked and clothed Thee?
39 Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto Thee?’
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, ‘Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.’
41 “Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I hungered, and ye gave Me no meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave Me no drink;
43 I was a stranger, and ye took Me not in; naked, and ye clothed Me not; sick and in prison, and ye visited Me not.’
44 Then shall they also answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when saw we Thee hungering or athirst or a stranger, or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister unto Thee?’
45 Then shall He answer them, saying, ‘Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to Me.’
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into Life Eternal.”

I guess that is the new NYC urban “renewal”.
This what New Yorker voters voted for. Enjoy!
Who is John Galt?
More of this, please.
New Yorkers need to see their city transformed into a shambolic cesspool to learn the lesson.
The encampments are going to be buried under snow and ice by Monday morning.
Make NY unlivable. No cops, more crime, POC’s and illegals everywhere, and white applied taxes....soon most will leave NY and just like the commie’s planned, they’ll scoop up all the properties and house their selected people. Imagine living on the upper east side just because you’re a POC homeless commie.
Enjoy the suck, NYC!
You voted for it.
How are those free busses and subways doing?
So Mamdani’s plan is to save them from freezing somewhere else by having them freeze somewhere other than somewhere else?
After what happened on 9/11, it’s shocking that a Muslim could become the mayor. 9/11 happened almost 25 years ago. I guess there are many who voted for him that weren’t alive at that time. Hopefully he’s only a one term mayor…
I’m sure that there are a lot of good people in New York that don’t deserve this.
