Residents of a liberal city in Missouri have been complaining to officials that it stinks of cannabis everywhere they go.
In Rock Hill, Missouri, a small city with a population of around 4,700 in the St Louis metropolitan area, the number of complaints about cannabis odor shot up in the second half of 2025.
The city received 99 complaints about stinky weed between April and December of last year. Rock Hill's city administrator Garrett Schlett told the St Louis Post-Dispatch the number represents a significant uptick from previous years.
Missouri legalized medical marijuana use in 2018, and recreational use was legalized in late 2022.
In 2021, Missouri-based cannabis company Proper Brands opened a facility in Rock Hill's Industrial Court, which is where the stench that residents have been complaining about originates.
Proper Brands' 60,000 square foot warehouse cultivates marijuana plants and manufactures a variety of cannabis products.
According to the company's CEO, John Pennington, the strong odor inside can escape and be carried by wind when employees leave or exit the warehouse.
And the wind takes the odor far. Schlett, the city administrator, said he and others can sometimes smell it at city hall, which is about half a mile from the warehouse.

The drive from Pueblo to Denver is insane. How much pot can you buy? My brothers house is always in the path of reeking air and can not evade it. Park within a 1/2 mile of one pot store and you are next door to the next pot store.
Drive back to your home state after being where its legal and your car smell like pot. A K-9 unit will hit on your car for at least a week unless you wash it.
“Hey man, you want to smoke some s___?”
“No thanks I don’t smoke marijuana.”
“Marijuana? This is s___.”
“So now I’m smoking my own s___.”

I know. It’s banal and adds nothing. Virtue signaling.
I can’t imagine smoking weed is good for your lungs.
They should have just legalized edibles. Even if you believe people have the right to smoke dope ir doesn’t mean they have the right to stink up entire neighborhoods
It’s NOT.
I couldn’t agree more.

weed + teevee = the collapse of western civilization
Last few times I rented a car at the airport, it smelled like weed. One even had some weed on the back seat. At the checkout, I made sure that it was noted on the contract..
Agreed.
Sounds like they need a double door airlock setup for ingress/egress. Not hard. 2 pot stores in my town, never notice a smell. 10 in nearby town, never noticed a smell there either. My next door neighbors own one of them, great family. No smell from their house.
Edibles take far longer to feel the effects. By the time it hits, you may already have left the “party” etc.
Sad. However there is little doubt that a significant percentage of the American population has embraced regular drug use and an overall neo pagan , hedonistic and decadent lifestyle. The reality is there no longer exists a consensus of decently held common values to unite Americans. Try to imagine any community in the Midwest that would be chronically contaminated with marijuana smoke and stoned people fifty years ago. America has changed.
I’ve been hearing Manhattan is a pot atmosphere now. It stinks no matter where you stand on that crappy little island.
It’s still called skunkweed and most of it is skunkweed today. Only like a sunk on steroids. We have both here, occasional skunks and some neighbor around is growing for sure. From late June through Sept when ever the wind blows out of the west we can smell it. No skunk can do that, I don’t think. Hard to tell the difference.
