San Francisco's beloved mall will finally shut its doors after years of harrowing decline and fears of crime and homelessness.
San Francisco Centre, formerly known as the Westfield Mall, will permanently close on January 26, an employee for the disgraced shopping center's lone remaining store told the San Francisco Chronicle.
The iconic mall began spiraling downward with the rest of the Democrat run city after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rumors of the closure have circulated for months as sprawling homeless encampments deterred tourists and locals alike.
As downtown foot traffic decreased, the mall saw fewer and fewer customers.
Its flagship Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's shut their doors in 2023 and 2025, respectively, mounting anticipation for the closure.
Remaining tenants slowly received lease termination notices, with the majority of shops and restaurants closing their doors by the end of 2025.
ECCO was the last remaining shop. The shoe store will close with the rest of the mall this week.
The city's homeless population peaked in 2024 at more than 8,000, with gun assaults, shoplifting and drug offenses still on the rise.
San Francisco's heavy rail system, BART, sealed off a major entrance to the mall this year, which connected a commuter hub to one of the city's busiest streets.
'SF Centre's General Manager advised BART they were going to close the entrance from the Powell Station concourse level to their mall,' read the statement obtained by the Chronicle.

It will be like the apartment building in the original Ghostbusters; Spook Central.
It’s closing due to its citizens lack of character.
Smart capitalists.
Yes, Atlas Shrugged.

Moar store fronts for Somali biznessmen.....
Or, perhaps they move to the Mall because the “homeless” are the ones in power.
I remember a strip mall on North Peoria Street(McLain Village shopping center) in Tulsa OK. In 1973 it was full, all stores occupied and clean.
In 1974, it was closed and abandoned except for the liquor store. Not a good area to be in.
It is still there today closed and abandoned. I believe even the liquor store has closed.
He may, but large malls having been dying across America, not just California. We had a large mall locally, the Westminster, Ca. mall, shut down in November, it too had been dying a slow death for the last 15 years or so. There was only one anchor store left when it closed, a Target, and they blocked the access to the mall years ago. It’s not just crime that kills a mall, they have been dying a slow death, like other brick and mortars, because of online retailers big like Amazon and small ones.
“... the utter absurdity of Newsom, a total incompetent fool”
He was the choice of California voters. Can’t leave that out of the equation.
