San Francisco's beloved mall will finally shut its doors after years of harrowing decline and fears of crime and homelessness.
San Francisco Centre, formerly known as the Westfield Mall, will permanently close on January 26, an employee for the disgraced shopping center's lone remaining store told the San Francisco Chronicle.
The iconic mall began spiraling downward with the rest of the Democrat run city after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rumors of the closure have circulated for months as sprawling homeless encampments deterred tourists and locals alike.
As downtown foot traffic decreased, the mall saw fewer and fewer customers.
Its flagship Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's shut their doors in 2023 and 2025, respectively, mounting anticipation for the closure.
Remaining tenants slowly received lease termination notices, with the majority of shops and restaurants closing their doors by the end of 2025.
ECCO was the last remaining shop. The shoe store will close with the rest of the mall this week.
The city's homeless population peaked in 2024 at more than 8,000, with gun assaults, shoplifting and drug offenses still on the rise.
San Francisco's heavy rail system, BART, sealed off a major entrance to the mall this year, which connected a commuter hub to one of the city's busiest streets.
'SF Centre's General Manager advised BART they were going to close the entrance from the Powell Station concourse level to their mall,' read the statement obtained by the Chronicle.

Another historical triumph for the progressive left.
I can see it now. All the doors/windows will be boarded up. Then a tent city will form around this once beautiful mall. One giant homeless camp around the block. People standing there all humped over like zombies.
All because Demorats are in power.
It would be sooooo much fun to start a rumor on social media that ICE has taken over the property. Maybe even print up a few signs:

I was in a nice small town in the foothills outside of Seattle today. Stopped at the fancy outlet mall they have. It was deserted. 20+ years ago we would go there with the kids for shopping and maybe an ice cream if they behaved. Back then the parking lots (perhaps 1000+ parking spots?) were full and crowds of people.
There were perhaps 50 cars parked. It looked like all of the stores were still open. I have no idea how they can stay in business. I can’t imagine the Christmas buying can sustain them.
But why drive 30 miles from the city when you can order whatever you need whenever you want? Sure not as memorable though.

It’s going the way of a lot of universities-closing down.
It’s not coincidental that Trump is now calling for the building of insane asylums. Since universities are all over the country and many are away from the cities converting them would be the perfect match. No need for security guards to keep the patients from wandering off. They can use sheepdogs.
“Beloved mall” might be a bit of a stretch. I’m in S.F., and it was always more of a tourist mecca than a place beloved by locals. In terms of foot traffic, the place probably peaked in the early 2000s... and then Newsom happened... and for the next 20 years tourism and convention business began a steady decline as up as the crazy, drugged-out street people took over the downtown.
I have to almost laugh at the utter absurdity of Newsom, a total incompetent fool going over to Davos to lecture the world... while claiming no qualification whatsoever beyond than being one of the world’s leading self-appointed anti-Trump trolls.

Yes. I looked it up and they have 30 stores there. And about 8 acres of parking. I went in for a pair of boot-cut Levi jeans in their pretty large store. “We don’t have those in stock, but you can order them off our website and delivered to your home.”
Not even any changes to be made, other than bars on the windows. The universities have been the abodes of the demented and criminally insane for decades.
