Not enough is said about the history of intermarriage between the royal families in Europe before WWI. The royal families in Britain, Germany, Russia, France and Austria were full of idiots with physical defects.

The problem with low IQ people is that they may eventually age into a position of power and authority. I watched this happen in a couple of companies where the least competent employee ended up running the department. The competent people rapidly leave starting with the best employee who is obviously the most marketable. We’ve seen this in politics with Tim Walz and Kamala Harris, although for different reasons.

The high frequency of cousin marriages certainly explains a lot of what’s wrong with Muslim societies. Inbreeding leads to low IQ and a host of other health problems, and societally, cousin marriages tend to lead to clan-based loyalties and inheritances that stifle economic development.
The difference is that this was largely restricted to the royal families of Europe, whereas in Muslim cultures, inbreeding runs through all levels of society.
