Denmark said it did not manage to dissuade President Donald Trump from seeking to conquer Greenland during high-level talks at the White House on Wednesday.
"It's clear the president has this wish of conquering Greenland," Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said at a news conference after a closed-door meeting attended by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"We had what I will describe as a frank but also constructive discussion," he added, standing alongside Greenland’s minister of foreign affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt. "The president has made his view clear, and we have a different position.”
Trump has vowed to take control of Greenland “one way or the other,” citing concerns it could be vulnerable to Russia or China. The White House has refused to rule out military action to seize the island from Denmark, alarming allies and rattling the NATO alliance.
Rasmussen said a high-level working group would be formed and meet within weeks "to explore if we can find a common way forward" on security while respecting Denmark's red lines, referring to demands for U.S. ownership of the vast, semi-autonomous territory as “totally unacceptable.”
“Whether that is doable, I don't know, but I hope it could take down the temperature,” he added.
Motzfeldt said strengthening cooperation “doesn’t mean we want to be owned by the United States,” adding: “We have shown where our limits are.”

President Trump says, "The United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it."
BUT WE COULD BUILD GOLDEN DOME MISSILE BASES ON GREENLAND TOMORROW if we want to. That's within our treaty rights.
So it comes down to mineral rights. Those too are easily accessible. We (or rather, our mining companies) just have to pay up.

It would be a premptive denial of Greenland to Russia or China.
We’re not asking permission here.
Conquer? NO... Annex? YES
Trump may be subtly expressing a point with his stated intentions over Greenland: If our NATO allies won’t control their own borders over the migrant invasion under the guise of taking in “refugees,” what would they do in the event of a Chinese or Russian takeover of Greenland? Just let the US do 95% of the fighting and take the brunt of the casualties because our NATO treaty obligations demand it? All for Denmark?? For a Europe that won’t shoulder their load of commitments to NATO???
Trump should just offer to buy Denmark lock, stock, and barrel! 🫠
We can bomb them back into the Ice Age.

We still have more illegals than the entire world. And trump is the least deported in chief. Believe it or not, Obama was doing a few million a year. Trumps at 200,000 for the year.
High level working group
I’m expecting Trump to “walk away” - telling Denmark they had their chance to MGGA by selling us Greenland and making the citizens of Greenland not only US citizens, but very wealthy. However, since they refuse, he’ll just use the power the US was given to establish an unlimited number of military bases there instead. Maybe he’ll create the “US Rare Earth Command” and do a little prospecting too.
Turn the tables and get the Greenlanders pissed at Denmark and demanding to become part of the US!
My understanding is Obama’s “deportations” were basically releases just on the other side of the border with Mexico.
