There's a beer on the market so strong it rivals cocktails β and it's illegal in parts of the U.S.
Earlier in the fall, Samuel Adams announced the release of its Utopias 2025, a "barrel-aged extreme beer" that packs an impressive 30% alcohol by volume (ABV).
"Utopias 2025 is one of the strongest beers ever brewed, and as a result, is illegal in 15 states," the release said.
TARA REID'S DISPUTED DRINK-TAMPERING CLAIM LEADS EXPERTS TO WARN AGAINST 'ILL INTENTIONS' OF STRANGERS
The banned states are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia, according to the company.
Utopias is Samuel Adams' experimental beer program β designed to test the limits of beer aging and blending techniques.

30% ABV......yeesh
-
I blame Tara Reid for everything.
Banning this because its liquor?
Weird states.
Non-carbonated, aged for decades in old whiskey barrels. To be sipped.
In this day and age, how much more proof do you need?
I often wondered why people put carbonated water in their whiskey..............
Can you still call it beer if it has 30% ABV? That sounds like hard alcohol.

Liquor is legal in Alabama. I don’t see why it would be banned.
Of course, it would fall under liquor regulations, not beer regulations.
“Can you still call it beer if it has 30% ABV? That sounds like hard alcohol.”
States set max limits on beer. Alabama moved it up to 13.9% from 6% to accommodate crafts.
Anything over that is defined as liquor.
Eh, I can make my Yuengling Lager 30% with a little Everclear. But yuck.
30% would be great for alcoholics as it would be cheaper to stay drunk.
For those that drink beer for the enjoyment, probably not a good thing.
I quit drinking years ago, but I wonder what that 30% would do to flavor?
60 proof beer
Doesn’t anyone here take a big pull from their 24 ounce tall can or 40 ounce bottle of Steel Reserve malt liquor (8%), then top the container full again with Caliber Walmart Canadian whiskey?
Legally, not beer.
“30% would be great for alcoholics as it would be cheaper to stay drunk.”
$260 a bottle.
It probably wouldn’t taste very good. I don’t like barley wine, which has about half that strength.
WOW! I remember people who could get falling down drunk on two 3.2 Oklahoma beers!
“Just a couple of beers, officer” has a whole new meaning.
When I lived in Virginia I tried a couple of different “barley wines”. I didn’t like them either.
