Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has claimed that President Vladimir Putin's state residence in the Novgorod region was the target of a Ukrainian drone attack overnight into Monday, and said it would have implications for the peace negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the claim as "typical Russian lies" made because Moscow does not want to end the war.
The allegation comes as U.S. President Donald Trump hailed progress toward peace following his latest talks with Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.
Securing a long-sought deal on Ukraine would be a crowning moment for Trump, the self-styled global peacemaker, who thinks Putin wants to end the war and has put pressure on Kyiv to make painful compromises because it is losing.

It’s a direct war by Russia. Did I deny the West helped Ukraine?
Too bad for Russia.
You sleazily avoided the question.
I repeat: Is it a proxy war?
Respond with a one-word answer or slink away.
Strange, that's exactly what Ukraine attempted to do, even using cluster bombs on Ukrainians in the Donbas Region in 2014 after U.S. State Department Victoria Nuland and her globalist cohorts overthrew the elected government in Ukraine.
Don’t tell me what to do or say, this isn’t Russia.
And NO it isn’t a proxy war It’s a direct war of aggression by Russia in which other countries thankfully aided Ukraine in its defense.
Do you understand N-O?
Did we launch a proxy war in Britain by helping them against Hitler? If that’s your definition then hooray proxy wars.
horsefeathers and fantasies.
Dishonest people aren't worth the time.
Lavrov claims that 91 Ukrainian drones were sent to attack Dolgiye Borody, in Valdai - Putin’s state residence.
As is often this case with Moscow accusations, there hasn’t been a single bit of independent confirmation, or even any photographic evidence, to back the accusation up.* We’re just supposed to take one guy’s word for it.
1. Pics of the damage at Dolgiye Borody, in Valdai, or even pics of some of these drones, might be helpful. Otherwise, some cynics might think Droopy Lavrov’s just making it up as usual.
2. Let’s have the context. If this was a real attack, and a deadly serious provocation because Putin was actually there, then why not say so? Perhaps it was a pointless Ukrainian attack on an empty building and Putin wasn’t in danger, in which case Russia are over-egging it.
Option 3, of course, is as Zelensky has indicated - this is yet another example of Russia accusing Ukraine of doing something that never actually happened, and Russia’s doing that purely to get its excuses in early for a “reprisal” attack.
Even if both (1) and (2) were true, it’s fair game. Putin’s targeted Zelensky’s assumed locations several times in this SMO. And, there have been at least three major attacks on Kryvyi Rih this year, including the targeting of a university there, just because it is Zelensky’s home town.
What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If Putin thinks he can do it to Zelensky, then as unwise as that may be, Zelensky is perfectly within his rights to return the compliment.
* We do remember some of the times when they have provided photographic “proof” and it hasn’t stood up to scrutiny. Like that time when the Russkies “found” Olena Zelensky’s passport in an apartment in Crimea...

(Anyone who’s ever held a modern passport would know straight away, just by looking at it, that this passport is a fake. For the benefit of anyone who’s never had a modern passport - a genuine passport photo is embossed into the page, not a crudely cut printout of an Instagram photo glued into position.)
Then don’t talk to me.
You know something? You’re absolutely right. It is a proxy war. That Russia, not Ukraine or USA, started.
The biggest proxies in Ukraine are:
1. The (fake) LDPR militias. The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) are Russian proxies set up by pro-Russian paramilitary forces that were actively supported and operationally controlled by the Russian armed forces and intelligence services.
2. The Private Military Companies (PMCs): The most notable was the Wagner Group (led by Yevgeny Prigozhin until his death in 2023). He, and two other senior rankers in Wagner PMC, went on the record to confirm that they’d been sent into Ukraine by Moscow. Since then, even Putin has admitted that the Russian state fully funded and supported the Wagner Group.
3. Chechen Forces (Rosgvardia units): Troops loyal to Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic, have operated in Ukraine with considerable operational autonomy.
There are others.
Granted, in the other direction, there is at least one small Belorussian outfit fighting for Ukraine, and a couple of volunteer units, but it is quite the stretch to say they’re being actively funded and operationally controlled by NATO.
So this is a proxy war, but it’s Russia’s proxy war.
It worked on Qaddafi Duck.
More likely it was the EU “nazis”.
Yeah... except they have Nuland on audio recordings.
Ukranians are desperate - they and NATO lost the war.
No amount of money can fix that.
EU is in financial decline and the world is pivoting to southeast Asia.
Didn’t happen
Ah fake attack on one of many pitin palaces, daily attacks by Russians on Ukrainian civilians and your response
Hypersonic for Zelensky, nice😎
Russian descent
Like the ones who were moved in from Russia during decades of Soviet rule while Ukrainians and Tatars were shipped to work camps, murdered, and starved
Yes only Russia deserves “buffer” zones, such the victims of invasions by the likes of
Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Chechnya, Afghanistan, 😎
Yup, poor Russia such a victim 😎
Take a look at Russian economic situation, but believe what you want
Imagine there are plenty of FSB/KGB recordings as well
Quit acting like Russians are victims
Might want to talk to the Fins, Poles, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Rumanians, Hungarians , Georgians, Chechnyians, and of the millions of Ukrainians starved, murdered and sent to camps.
