Russia Claims Ukraine Tried to Strike Putin’s Residence
Newsweek ^ | Dec 29, 2025 | Shane Croucher

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has claimed that President Vladimir Putin's state residence in the Novgorod region was the target of a Ukrainian drone attack overnight into Monday, and said it would have implications for the peace negotiations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the claim as "typical Russian lies" made because Moscow does not want to end the war.

The allegation comes as U.S. President Donald Trump hailed progress toward peace following his latest talks with Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

Securing a long-sought deal on Ukraine would be a crowning moment for Trump, the self-styled global peacemaker, who thinks Putin wants to end the war and has put pressure on Kyiv to make painful compromises because it is losing.

Yesterday, the MSM tried to lead PResident Trump to make a statement against Russia's attack/agression in the recent days. President Trump said nice middle of the road words while noting it seems there had been some Ukraine aggression too. I thought President Trump might know something he was not sharing. In that clip, Zelensky was described by another X.com account as 'looking scared'. I saw a different clip on another website wherein Zelensky was making faintly disgusted facial expressions as President Trump spoke about Russia's willingness to negotiate.

Anyway, I think the Newsweek story is likely true. The Deep STate headquarters based in Ukraine is not willing to admit its losing. It needs war and/or it needs to kill Putin before Trump puts an end to fighting.

Is Russia surprised by this?

wonder why they haven’t been trying to kill him and his family for four years; Its not like they have been following the Marquis of Queensbury rules all along.

Because Putin is trying to trump up an excuse to nuke Ukraine, because he cannot just do it without a good excuse, because the world would disapprove if he didn’t cook up a good excuse.

FFS.

Isn’t it? They get a great idea and can’t pull it off. What a shame.

Yep, as has been said, “War is Hell.” And it doesn’t mean I like it.

I’ll support Trump no matter what he decides.

As for Putin, a threat on his life is the only thing he cares about. Like any sociopathic bully.

Who do you think they are shooting at Kiev?

I am not a fan of the Ukrainian government. But I am less a fan of Russia.

With the way Putin’s wife and daughter prance around Switzerland, I am surprised someone on a motorcycle hasn’t driven past them with a machine gun. They are as much targets as the folks minding their own business when an Iranian drone lands on them.

The nastier the war gets, the sooner it will end. Both sides are idiots.

Hopefully it’s time for a hypersonic to hit Zelinsky and his family home.

The cease fire is dead anyway. It is all a wish list of US and Uke demands and pretty much flips the finger to long stated Russian red lines they have stood firm on.

The losing side doesn’t get to set the terms, certainly not in their favor. The DC/London axis has spent a year and a half pushing for a “frozen conflict” with a DMZ. Then they can start the rearming and rebuilding phase.
But that concept does nothing for Russia.

Going nowhere. And the loons in our military leadership and in Ukraine think that if they can kill Putin, some Russian WEF moderate will be installed who will see it their way and the neocon project will continue.

Whatever, up the spout...

Putin doesn't want to nuke his border. He wants Ukraine to function as a buffer between Russia and NATO. He wants political alliance, not radioactive waste. Portions of Ukraine are occupied by people of Russian descent. He'd prefer slavic alliance to radioactive waste.

When Ukrainians were shelling their own nuke plant, Russia took control of the plant. If they wanted a meltdown, they could have created a melt-down. But instead, they prevented destruction of an operating nuke plant.

They’ve tried to kill Zelensky before.

The only reason not to kill Putin is supposedly he’d be replaced by a hardliner.

Putin is a moron continuing this war. If Ukraine kills him, Russia should be able to nuke Ukraine. I’d expect America to take out anyone who killed our president.

But Putin has subjected Russia to drone attacks, mercenary attacks, Ukrainian invasion. All ridiculous situations for a superpower.

What better way to create a secure buffer zone of friendly slavic people, than to invade kill and destroy everything in that territory for four years. A masterstroke.

Fact is Vlad can vaporize St Z at any time of his choosing. He is showing much restraint.

How long would the war have lasted without the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of billions of US dollars rolling through the Ukraine laundromat?

How can you deny with a straight face that it’s a proxy-war?
