Droubay said her family's housing costs doubled, but their New York life is a dream come true.

I have been pleasantly surprised by how kind 99% of people have been. I will get to the subway, and before I even fold up my stroller, strangers pick up the other end and carry it for me. Everyone stands up and offers seats to my kids, or older women have even grabbed one of my kids' hands and helped them on or off the subway for me.

"But WE can do it right! We're aware of others' failings and we're too educated to repeat those mistakes. Besides, the evil right wing USA won't be around to interfere in The People's Dream once we get back in power." /S
Nor do I.
Not to mention expenses.
omg.
It is almost a joke! I think the writer is gunning for a job to write a book on an imaginary Stepford city.
I was waiting for the ‘my children were invited to pick blueberries in the neighbor’s back yard so she could bake them blueberry muffins to bring home for our breakfast while we cooked eggs that we got from their hens’ nests that were freshly laid’.
And where was the old grandfather figure sitting in his rocking chair on his front porch with a pocket full of Werther’s caramels to give to her children, as he rocked gently back in forth in his cardigan while they regaled him with stories of how school was while they walked home?
Overlooking the fact that the cesspool of a subway system is even needed.
So based on this information, it would appear the best places to live in America are California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, DC, and a few New England states.
See, if any other Freepers weigh in on this, and if they themselves would be motivated to move to of these areas, for the quality of life indicated by this map.
You are not eligible for the Darwin Award if you have procreated. You have to remove yourself from the gene pool before that.
Love your addition. Right on.
It has to be AI fiction writing.
I don’t believe this for a moment
I notice she never writes just where in NYC she is. NYC (like many cities, from what I understand)is made up of many small neighborhoods. It is very likely they found an apartment in one of the areas that was suited to family life.
But I bet her perspective will be different after a few years, if not months, of living under a mayor who thinks Socialism will make the city thrive.
Of course the editors are going to choose photos that suit the story.
Yes, New York City has world class museums, the opera, the Broadway theater scene, the ballet. It is a world headquarters for all the performing arts.
Undoubtedly, some people like living there because of those amenities. Many other people would not take those into consideration, in deciding whether to live in New York City.
New york is a sports lovers dream, considering they have multiple teams in the major sports, such as major league baseball, NFL football, NBA basketball, and NHL hockey.
But do those positives for sports fans override the negatives of living there? Obviously everybody has to decide for themselves if they would want to live there.Considering all the pros and cons.
A “family” of seven doesn’t pay taxes, do they? They can be real freeloading socialists in MadMammiland now.
But of course the children will pay the price. The loss of parents is hard to deal with.
I wouldn’t drop a good Texas turd in NYC
Sorry, I vote for the six bedroom in Salt Lake. Why would I want to be crushed into a little apartment in Communist City, NY?
Explain why New York state (and Mass., and NJ, and CT and RI) which has massive suburbs, doesn’t suffer from “suburban isolationism”?
And Maryland? And California?
You might want to rethink your theory.
Really? I would think removal from further procreation would also be award-worthy, but I don't make the rules.
I would say that this person would at best be a contestant so far, not an actual award-winner.
