The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday they will relocate across the Kansas-Missouri border in a new domed stadium that will be ready by the 2031 season.
The move comes after a Kansas legislative committee approved a bonding package to support the move earlier in the day.
The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium on the Missouri side of Kansas City since 1972. Kansas City (Mo) Mayor Quinton Lucas and city officials planned to address the media later Monday.

“That is a long haul west from downtown KC.”
What? 10-15 minutes is “a long haul”?
I wouldn’t walk across the street to see an NFL team if it was free but……..
Wyandotte County has no business paying for a stadium.

KCMO is a dying city rife with corruption and crime and stupidity. However, Arrowhead is fantastic stadium. Still, probably needs a rebuild with a roof so they don’t have to play in 20 below weather.

I thought the original design for the Arrowhead sports complex included a dome that would be mounted on a track system that could roll from the football stadium over to the baseball park as needed??
But is this really a loss if the Chiefs stay in the same metropolitan area?
I guess I’m having trouble with that concept. Many sports teams play their games outside the city limits of the city name they have. And many metropolitan areas in this country encompass parts of more than one state.
I’m not familiar with Kansas City specifically. But I wonder if any Chiefs fans who live in Missouri consider this a big loss. And as far as Missouri is concerned, arguably they come out ahead because they don’t have to spend any tax money or sell any bonds for the public financing portion of the stadium. But since the new stadium will still be in the same metropolitan area, Missouri will still get some economic benefits from it.
Sorry, I should have said Speedway. It is NASCAR.
Seattle was forced to have a state referendum, or maybe local, to build a new stadium and move out of the Kingdome... or go to California, that was the threat. I love the Seahawks, been a fan since 1974.. they had a preseason tilt between Pittsburgh and the Jets. I went then, and have been excited ever since.
The point I am trying to make is, I voted against the bond measure. Billions for Billionaires. The LIBTARDS VOTED FOR THE WASTE OF PUBLIC FUNDS. The measure won, they built a stadium and built a new one. They said it would be multi use, with Baseball. It was single use, then they built a brand new Baseball stadium too. Fuffin’ Fieves.
Surely they have different mayors?

There are plenty of cities in 2 or more counties.
Slide to local politics. Wyandotte county / Kansas City KS is a small county just to the north of Johnson County Kansas. Johnson County Kansas, the county west of Kansas City Missouri, was experiencing a lot of growth starting back in the 1960s. People were moving out of the urban core across the line to Kansasfor lower taxes and better services and schools. Kansas City Missouri (which spans 3 counties in Missouri) resented this, and decided to build an Airport, and deliberately---it is said--sited that airport in the far north of their city in an attempt to choke off development in Johnson County Kansas. They then attempted to develop the areas around the Airport but were not particularly successful. It is pain in the ass to drive 30 miles because of their grudge when they could have been neighborly and provided a more central location. Slide back.
The Chiefs move is a big loss for Kansas City Missouri and Jackson County Kansas. They generate tax revenue from anything sold at the games and I would assume that includes tickets, parking, and concessions. IN ADDITION Kansas City MO has a 1% income tax for anyone who lives or works within the city limits. (So does St. Louis.) That means that all the tax on all the salaries of the Chiefs organization including all the players and the owner are going away. I was thrilled when I stopped working in KC MO. I hated the MO State tax and forms and the 1% KC MO skimmed from my paycheck. If you were a player making $10 million a year think about all the money you would save by not living and working in KC MO.
Yeh l, no future political kick-backs or Mob involvement ......SUUUURE.
Laura Jeanne Kelly (born January 24, 1950)[1][2] is an American politician serving since 2019 as the 48th governor of Kansas. Laura, don’t my taxes go up any.
“Less than 5% read the article before posting.”
It’s still state debt. I guarantee when the revenues from their special tax aren’t enough, they’ll soak the rest of the state. Kansas isn’t as conservative as I thought. Yeah, reliably red for president but loaded with RINO judges and legislators.
We sure didn’t get a chance to vote on it. RINOs strike again.
Wind chill is not the same a temperature.

Duh.
NYS taxpayers have berm screwed to the tune of $800 mil for the Bills’ new stadium.
Oddly enough, I’m seeing a lot less Bills merch on display these days.
Go figure.
attempted to “corner” the silver market in 1980
As I recall silver went from $10 to $50 an ounce during the run up.
Not really. I grew up in Johnson County, KS. Nobody went to Kansas City, Kansas (Wyandotte County).
Kinda like musical chairs.
Which taxpayer base is going to be left holding the bag.
Same deal in Chiraq.
Have the terms been released yet? taxpayers need to know how much they are getting screwed for.
Agree - I lived in the area where the new Chiefs stadium is going to be built.
The theft is beyond billionaires taking it - we had an election to raise taxes in our town in Wyandotte County for schools/education - it lost by 70% - 30%.
The school district promptly sued the state for not funding education in accordance with state constitution. Along with 5 of the ‘richest’ districts in the state. Disgusting.
Since it was still available to us as an act of civil disobedience - we moved out of the county to a location more hospitable to the electorate (not Johnson County)
