A staggering $9 billion may have been stolen in Minnesota’s sprawling social-services scam orchestrated mainly by members of its Somali community — a figure nearly equivalent to the entire economy of Somalia.
The enormous new estimate is a nearly nine-fold increase from the swiped $1 billion previously suspected, according to federal prosecutors.
It also accounts for roughly half of the $18 billion in total federal funds provided to the Minnesota-run services since 2018, the feds said — as Democratic Gov. Tim Walz continues to take heat for his handling of the debacle.
By comparison to the $9 billion figure, Somalia’s entire GDP was under $12 billion last year, according to the World Bank.
“The magnitude cannot be overstated,” First Assistant US Attorney Joe Thompson said Thursday of the tentacles of the fraud. “What we see in Minnesota is not a handful of bad actors committing crimes. It’s staggering, industrial-scale fraud.
“Every day, we look under a rock and find a new $50 million fraud scheme.”
The scheme saw dozens of people — the vast majority from Minnesota’s Somali community — setting up businesses and non-profits that claimed to provide services such as housing, food or healthcare assistance and then billing the federally funded state programs for the non-existent services.
The fraud was so enormous that it went beyond the over-billing tactics typically seen in similar fraud cases and instead saw people setting up entire operations — sometimes coming from out of state — to get in on the goldrush of fraud opportunity, Thompson explained.

This strange statement has been repeated by several news sources the past few days.
Several look-ups gives the Somalia economy and GPD as remittances and foreign aid.
The remittances would be the state of Minnesota.

That would be fitting since it seems the Somalis were running the state. And where was Timpon during this entire fiasco?

Think of all the homes that money could build to house California’s homeless. Now think of the tax dollars a local government could gain from those 5 houses.

The fraud was so enormous it went beyond the usual over-billing fraud tactics; the thieves set up entire operations — sometimes coming from out of state — to get in on the gold-rush of fraud.
The FOF charity founder, Bock or whatever her name is … when I was doing searches on her and her old boyfriend named Empress , results kept coming up with a shared addresss with a crypto guy in MN whose name started with a B , Brockovich or something similar.
This fraud was done by scammers setting up tiny storefront operations that obviously fraudulent shell companies. They then provided sham services and products with cash kickbacks to the social services recipients.
To burn through 9 billion dollars a large plurality of the Somali community must have been involved. All of this is recorded on their EBT card records.
The Trump administration needs to prosecute the fraudsters and deport the recipients of the scam who received the kickbacks and use forfeiture laws to seize their assets for restitution
“Somala” isn’t really a functional discrete political unit as countries are defined. It looks however a lot like Minnesota is a very, very special kind of stupid as well.
Wonder how many other states have the same scam going on Minnesota can’t be the only fish on the line for thay gig.
Cut off all Fed funds to MN until $9B + is returned to treasury. THAT should do nicely. Let the libs suffer what they voted for. Not 1 penny should flow into MN and anything out of it should be garnished.
