December 20th marks ny 25th anniversary of joining FR. When I joined I was a career cop in My early thirties. I was freshly married and optimistic. I am now divorced, retired and disabled. Through all the crap that's gone on these 25 years I can honestly say that my optimism is somewhat diminished . But not entirely extinguished. I still believe we can make a difference in the here and now. But added to that, I've come to understand that it's also preparing for a much longer future when we leave this world. Jim: RIP, God bless you and may He give you his peace. To the rest of the Robinson family: keep up the good fight and God's blessings upon you too. And to all the freepers out there, please continue to challenge me, educate me and make me laugh.

It is sometimes strange to think of just how much time has passed, when I joined in 2000 Bill Clinton was still President, like you I was a young (26) year old idealist who had recently graduated college and had two young children. Now I’m a much less idealistic and more pragmatic 52-year-old thinking more about retirement than anything else, oh and my two “young kids” are now pushing 30.
Well then you ain’t leaving. Dang cops.
Nah, perhaps I misused the word. I was using it in the non FReeper sense.
