Could someone explain to me, like I am 8, why we need data centers, centralized processing, and AI ? Why? Who decided?

Non-curated AI got loose in the wild.

They call the shots now.

Thanks for asking.

Lol.

Because the leftists need a professional lying machine that appears to have plausibility now that they and their media slime mold butt-kissers no longer have any.

That’s how progress works. We didn’t need telephones at one time, until they became useful enough to become indispensible.

AI and data centers are quite possibly a force multiplier on human intelligence because it will crunch thousands of years of information in just a few minutes, freeing up mental resources that can be used for other things.

It goes back to that deal Eisenhower made with the EBEs.

Perhaps for a similar reason as to why we need cars, even though we can still walk or ride a horse.

AI is spooky. I’m not completely comfortable with it. But it’s here to stay. Unfortunately its probably better to adjust to its pervasiveness than to fight windmills on this one.

To make it possible for a future government to know all there is to know about you 24/7.

The “market” demands efficiency to generate a higher return on investment.

AI will drive efficiency like literally, nothing before. The impact on manufacturing and logistics will rival the Industrial Revolution. This will result in reduced expenses and higher profits.

AI requires huge processing centers. Those centers require huge amounts of energy and water to keep them running and keep them cool.

Every iteration of chip development will hopefully reduce those needs, but they will remain high.

The “markets” demand it. You won’t be asked (nor will I.) We are simply along for the ride.

It’s where the science is going. It’s predicted to do a lot of things much faster and beetter:

It can greatly increase productivity at work. We’ve already identified new product suppliers for our company.

It decreases the amount of time spent searching the web from hours down to minutes.

We live in a mostly free market capitalist society => The market (everyone) decided. There are enough validated use cases showing people pay for services that require AI to convince CEOs and venture capitalists to invest heavily.

So governments can predict when Muslim terrorists will likely shoot people so governments can prevent the shootings.

Like most other things we don’t need it but some people want it and use it. That’s the way freedom works.

In my mind the AI thing is total speculation on the part of those investing in it. It much like the speculation that occurred in the early 1990s on fiber optics. There is thousands of miles of fiber optic lines buried and forgotten. Fiber optic laid by companies that later went bankrupt for lack of contracts.

The data centers are different in that they are binging built to house all of the data collected by the various companies that want all of your personal data, from the metadata on your photos to the geo-location of your cellphone ever minute of every day.

That data is purchased by every company that wants to sell you anything and everything.

And so fool that buys something from. Amazon is paying for those data centers that drive up the cost of electricity and flood the night with light pollution.

My impression, owners of corporations and such are going to replace workers like crazy and make a hell of a lot more money.

Anything that would ‘grind’ the ordinary people into the ‘dirt’ so the elite can have the ‘pick of the chicks’ is a good thing!
