If you’re going to read the comments, might as well have some fun with them.
The #1 rule of working on the internet is to never read the comments. Somebody could put the winning lottery numbers in our comments and I would still lose because I would never see them. It’s usually just a cesspool of trolls, so there’s not really any point in diving into the comments to deal with that mess.
But one news anchor has a different way of dealing with the trolls.
Carissa Codel, a morning news anchor from Missouri, has gone viral – and won over the internet – with her videos reading her troll comments in her newscaster voice.
Several of them take aim at her weight, which Codel laughs off:
“Thicker than a peanut butter milkshake”
“I want you to put a hurtin’ on me like you do those midnight snacks”
“I ain’t never worked as hard as them ankles”
“Why have fake news when you can have cake news”
“She’s thicker than zoo glass”
“I bet she’s thicccc and tired of reading these comments”
“You look like you could survive a harsh winter”
“Enough cake for a triplets birthday party”
“Built like my grandma’s prescription lenses”
But there are plenty of thirsty dudes in the comments too:
“Built for breeding”
“She’s like the only fat 9 I’ve ever seen”
“This is who Sir Mix-a-Lot was rapping about”
“You look like I’m about to get featured on your news channel”
“Fe fi fo yum”
“Brick wall? More like a brick house, and I’m looking to move in”
“I mean, she IS overweight. That being said, she’s an absolute smoke show”
“She would make a great single mother”
For her part, Codel says she’s not bothered by the comments, telling the New York Post gets a kick out of the creativity:
“It doesn’t affect me at all. I think that they’re hilarious…
I don’t put up the extremely mean ones, but I like the insults that are very creative. My family is very thick-skinned, I’ve never been bothered by a lot of that.”
And clearly her videos have helped grow her profile: Thanks to the 14 videos she’s posted so far, Codel has racked up millions of views and nearly 125,000 followers on TikTok.
Now, first of all, people are way too comfortable saying things online that they would never say to somebody’s face. And I have a feeling some of these dudes are probably embarrassed having their comments read in these videos (and if they’re not, they probably should be).
But man, this is a hilarious way to deal with trolls.

Dudes used to use paint on a canvas to immortalize ladies such as her. Makes me happy she is so confident. The AWFLs could use the lesson.
Chances are better than good that most of the somewhat derogatory comments about her were made by youngsters between the ages of 35 and 10. Taylor Swift’s got nothing on her...I’ll bet she has at least a boyfriend who treats her right, and if they’re happy, I’m happy for them.

That’s true, but a 12 in MM’s day was much smaller than a 12 now. At Mom’s house I found some patterns she sewed for me in the ‘60s. 10s and 12s; I was a stick.

I asked AI for a good comment for this thread. The result:

She reminds me of Pam Poovey from “Archer”.
I’m surprised more people don’t do this. Its the best way to undermine criticism. Acknowledge it and have fun with it. Even the meanest comments. It gets everyone else on her side. It works much better than the “outraged victim” ploy that a lot of professional PR people advise their clients to do.
Our neighbor got to see Marilyn Monroe in person once. He was disappointed because she just looked fat to him.
She’s lovely. Sydney Sweeney and Kate Upton are gorgeous and a bit on the plump side too.
We’ve let homosexual fashion designers set the standards of beauty for far too long. Their ideal is an ectomorphic 14 year old boy.
I’d hit that often, lengthwise, and repeatedly.
