CONNECTION BETWEEN VENEZUELA'S MADURO AND HONDURAS IS EFFECTIVELY DESTROYED
Various Live Open Source in Honduras and Youtube in Spanish | 2 Dec 2025 | Salvavida

Reporting Live from Central America. Me.

The 30 November 2025 General Election has yet to be called. As of right now, there is a glitch in the ability of the Honduran election officials (CNE), to disseminate updates to the tallies.

However, what we do know: the link between President Maduro of Venezuela and the Honduran presidency has been effectively removed. The socialist/communist candidate Rixi Moncada has been trounced gaining less than 20% of the vote. Specifically, 19.16% of the popular vote as of 4:09 PM CST, yesterday 1 December. That was the last official update before the CNE website failed to provide further updates. Moncada is a candidate for the incumbent "Libre" (Liberty and Refoundation) party, and the outgoing socialist president of the same party, Iris Xiomara Castro. Castro was the First Lady of ousted President Manuel Zelaya, who was removed from office in 2009 in a supposed coup d etat (it depends on who you ask).

Both of the previous Zelaya and Castro administrations (Xiomara Castro doesn't use her husband's last name), saw Honduras sharply turn towards being an advocate for Cuba, Venezuela, and China. Particularly in political and economic ties. Honduras today is awash with Chinese durable goods.

The current leaders in the Presidential election are, as it stands.....right now:

1. Salvador Nasralla, from the Liberal Party. Currently leading by 1,600 votes!!!!! 39.93% of the popular vote, as of 2:09 PM

2. "Tito" Asfura the Trump-endorsed conservative from the National Party, with 39.85% of the popular vote, as I am typing and the results still coming in. It has not been announced when the election will be called. It could be today....it could be tomorrow.

Analysis: Nasralla, despite being from the Liberal Party (this isn't your grandaddies Liberal Party), is a popular common-sense candidate. Asfura on the other hand, is an establishment candidate and former mayor of the capital, Tegucigalpa. EITHER OF THESE TWO CANDIDATES DESTROYS THE TIES BETWEEN HONDURAS AND VENEZUELA. That is the headline. It is a win for Honduras and the Trump administration. Interesting that both Nasralla and President Bukele have similar backgrounds. Both of Arab/Middle-Eastern heritage, both political outsiders.

Honduras is a major transshipment point for cocaine coming up from Colombia and Venezuela, particularly on the Caribbean side. The speed boats use Honduran waters to refuel, and even transfer to ground transportation for the continuing journey. Mostly unabated, but there are occasional drug busts; largely seen as being "for show."

ALL FOR NOW.

I bet the CNE website went down due to a water main break.

Nah, it seems legit. The tallies are being broadcast live on Honduran TV and radio. Rixi Moncada doesn’t appear to have a shot at making up the vote tallies. It’s a barn-burner between the conservative and moderate party.

600 votes separating them now.

The CNE website is now up.

Salvador Nasralla (Liberal Party) now up 3,400 votes; counting continues.Tito Asfura (National Party) has been criticized for running a lackluster campaign, not offering speeches nor visiting portions of Honduras.

Manuel Zelaya is popping off on X, saying Trump is a fraud for initiating a release of former Honduran president Juan Hernandez, currently in US custody for drug trafficking. He claims 55% of Hondurans support his Libre Party; but the numbers are not adding up. Not even close.

If only they had an Obama to make sure the commies stayed in power.

I can only hope the new Honduran president takes the Bukele approach and cleans up the gangsters.

The Honduran government formed an alliance with Venezuela. With the results of the election, that is over. Honduras stepped away from the ledge of socialism/communism.

Recall that Venezuela had a vote a couple years ago. Maduro got spanked. The commies overruled the people.

Paper ballot here. :-)

The Free Republic Decision Desk

is calling the Honduran presidential election for Salvador Nasralla of the moderate Liberal Party with 40.16% (882,973 votes) over the next challenger, "Tito" Asfura of the conservative National Party with 39.70% (872,722 votes), a 10,251 vote difference.

This was a barn-burner. At one point around 2 PM today, Asfura led Nasralla by a mere 2 votes! The CNE has yet to call the race, but 10K is likely insurmountable.

What this means:

The Socialist Libre Party will now be the opposition party to both the Liberal and National parties. This was an "Anything But Libre" mandate. That was the common mindset amongst voters. Libre candidate Rixi "I Can't Read the Room" Moncada, actually campaigned on taking wealth from bank accounts of the rich, and redistributing to the poor. The Honduran people rejected a socialist agenda; the warming of diplomatic ties between Honduras and Venezuela/Cuba; the stigma of being a drug transshipment country; and the inability of the previous administrations to deal with crime and the economy.

Political support for Venezuela will end after the inauguration in January 2026.

This opens the door for unofficial talks between Nasralla and President Trump in regards to trade, continued military basing at Soto Cano, Honduras. Honduras for its part, has to find a way to make up for the $174 million annual US Aid, lost after Trump became president.

Honduras will likely have to become a full participant in counter-drug, counter-cartel operations while also tackling the corruption already present within its institutions.

It will likely lead to discussions between Nasralla and El Salvadorian president Nayib Bukele, in the construction and operation of a similar prison for gang members. This was already being discussed before the election, and is a popular idea among Hondurans, regardless of party.

Nasralla will also have to address how to absorb the Honduran nationals still residing illegally in the United States.

The National Party for its part, will likely make overtures to the Liberal Party to relegate the Libre Party to a position where they hopefully, will not be a political threat. Nasralla campaigned on an idea never before instituted in Honduran politics: Putting an end to firing ALL government employees of the losing party. Nasralla espoused individual merit being the sole determining factor on state employment, and the ability to provide services to the Honduran people.

What remains unclear: What does this mean for China? Honduras terminated diplomatic relations with the Taiwanese, replacing it with a Chinese diplomatic mission.

Keeping with the Trump strategy to further isolate China from Latin America, SecState Marco Rubio is going to come calling.

I recall a fake election in Honduras where the President had a referendum to allow him to serve a longer term. The election was cancelled by the legislature, the voting machines seized and found out to have been already rigged for a win for the would be President for life . The other detail was Venezuela apparently set it up. I mention this because something similar happened to let Chavez turn Venezuela Socialist.

That was Manuel Zelaya, the husband of the current socialist president, Xiomara Castro. Some call it a coup having him removed (the military packed him up and sent him to Nicaragua— but he returned). Others call it that the Honduran government executed their constitution rightfully, albeit heavy-handed.

One of my nieces were in his inner-circle.
