Avatar: Fire and Ash has had its first few screenings for press on Monday, and the early reaction suggests James Cameron can celebrate yet another billion dollar box office mega hit.
While official critics reviews for Fire and Ash are embargoed till closer to the film's Dec. 19 release date, 20th Century Studios allowed press to release social media reaction to screenings this week.
The third installment in Cameron's groundbreaking Avatar series, sees the action return to Pandora after the events of 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, and introduces the "Ash" people, fire-themed Na'vi clan. Fire and Ash stars Avatar regulars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder and Giovanni Ribisi. The Way of Water‘s Kate Winslet and Cliff Curtis reprise their roles.
The major new additions to the cast are Oona Chaplin, who plays Varang, the Na'vi leader of the volcano-dwelling Mangkwan clan and David Thewlis, who plays Peylak, the Na'vi leader of the Wind Traders.
Given the Cameron's pedigree, and Avatar‘s unique place in pop culture, Fire and Ash‘s box office prospects look good, but the film will still need to perform heroics to keep up with the hauls of the first two chapters. 2009's Avatar, the film that ushered in the 3D film craze, made over $2.9 billion at the global box office, not adjusted for inflation. The film still holds the title of the highest grossing movie in history. 2022's The Way of Water scored an incredible $2.34 billion worldwide, a figure all the more remarkable as the theatrical industry was still reeling from a post-COVID slump.
The third film is set to be followed by Avatar 4 in 2029 and Avatar 5 in 2031.

I thought it was a lot of fun. Different strokes.
But to some people, it was noted as great science fiction. The first movies they tried to make didn't do well and it seemed like it wouldn't translate to the screen well.
This last round of movies didn't put me to sleep like the earlier attempt did, so I am interested to finally see the conclusion. Then I might have the context and patience to go back and read the books.
LOTR on the other hand, I read long before the good movies came out. I already knew the story going into the theater. (there was a terrible animated version that came out in the early eighties. So disappointing.)
i quit watching Hollywood Woekees long ago ...
Same for me
White man steals natives planet. White man bad. Aboriginal natives good. Mother planet god. We are the world, we are the children, blah, blah. Oh, and we walk around naked and have tail feather sex....

They did this to me with my script of Star Wars. Don't believe me? Just listen to the dialogue. That's pure six year old's writing.
Ditto
LOL!
Well, they diddle little boys and girls, so stealing screenwriter’s content is small fry for them...
Dances with Smurfs part 3.
Apparently a horde of suggestible females who like to imagine going to Pandora. After the first one came out, therapists reported a rash of women pining away for a life with the blue people. They wanted so badly for it to be true. Go figure.
Fake CGI crap
Blue People Good.
White People Bad.
“Fake CGI crap”
You can say this, but according to FReepers here, half the reason for seeing these Avtar movies is to see how slick the CGI and special effects are
The last time I went to the theater was to see the Deadpool and Wolverine movie in 2024 with my youngest son who is in his 50's. The music and sound effects were so loud, but I couldn't understand half of what they were saying. I ended up watching it again when it aired on Disney+ with the captions on.
A young couple who were getting married ordered "Lord of the Rings" replica rings. I told the fellow to get the Head Wraith one for himself and the Sauron one for her.
The "One ring to rule them all" goes to the wife.
CCH Pounder was so good in The Shield. What does she play in this series?
Cameron profits off of plagiarism
