Campbell Soup Company is facing an employment discrimination and retaliation lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court after a former security analyst alleged he was fired for reporting inappropriate conduct by a senior executive.
The complaint, Garza v. Campbell Soup Company, case number 25-018465-CD, was filed on November 20, 2025, by the Runyan Law Group on behalf of plaintiff Robert Garza. The defendants are Campbell Soup Company and supervisor J.D. Aupperle.
The claims—centered on a secretly recorded tirade in which a senior vice president allegedly mocked the company’s products, its customers, and Indian employees—challenge the credibility of Campbell’s public values and highlight broader concerns about how corporations handle discrimination complaints.
Campbell Soup Company told Newsweek that—if the recording was legitimate—the comments were unacceptable and did not reflect its values, adding that the executive was on leave while an investigation was carried out.
Newsweek contacted attorneys for Garza for comment via email outside of normal office hours on Monday. Why It Matters
The lawsuit against Campbell Soup Company raises serious questions about executive accountability, workplace culture, and retaliation inside one of America’s most recognizable brands.
It could shape not only the company’s internal response but also wider conversations about employee protections, corporate transparency, and the consequences of leadership misconduct.

All canned soup contains so much salt, I avoid it. Especially Progresso.
Yeah the Sodium level in there is quite high 25% or more daily recommended intake..
If Martin Bally is aware poor people buy Campbell’s soups, why are those soups costing so much? The prices are outrageous.
Canned soup of any variety is unhealthy crap.

Fresh homemade soup is better, but if I’m hungry and canned soup is my only option the health scolds/experts can “pound sand.”
YES!
Certainly not appropriate to speak about your
company’s products nor its customers like that
The plaintiff is not a reporter. He was a Campbell employee security analyst who brought a tape recording to his performance review and push for a raise. He held the tape for 2 weeks. I suppose he didn’t get a raise and then sent the tape to higher execs. The guy he was whining about was in IT. Had nothing to do with making soup and was bitching about working with Indians in IT. If you work in the corporate world you have heard rants like this to relieve steam. They are not unusual. Campbell’s probably did not think the “transgression” was serious enough. The plaintiff does sound like a sleaze taping the meeting and then only reporting the guy after he didn’t get what he wanted. I suspect they canned him for taping the review without informing the other party and/or he had a reputation as a problem employee.
Progresso has some low sodium soups unlike Campbells.
“best customers are too busy being poor to read Newsweak.”
This is all over the news media. I just picked Newsweak to post it. Even local stations are carrying it.
Campbells has had it.
I’m not sure dogs would even eat some of that stuff.
Ha! I use their Cream of Mushroom quite a bit in recipes myself, usually when feeling lazy.
All it really is though, is a kind of cheat gravy. Instead, use a roux with butter and flour (or bacon grease) and Milk (or half & half!) and now you’ve got something that will take recipes to the next level.
When it’s 18 degrees outside you can thank me then. The award was given to me by a lady editor. I beat out a bunch of women with their fancy desert recipes. Scrubs they were, lol.
I don’t understand why a sneaky employee getting fired warrants an article in a magazine with the highest circulation in the US.
Regardless of the unappealing name, reminiscent of commies, Progresso soups are better.
agree
I’ve seen cooks on YouTube make up a powdered base that you can store and use:

Keep in mind, the alleged comments are made by an IT person, who has nothing to do with how we make our food.
Campbell’s spokes person
