November 22, 1963. Assassination of our then President Kennedy. I hated to let the day go by without mentioning it, though it's been many years.
I still remember my mother's tears, the 3 days of the funeral, the sound of the drums. I was a kid. A different time. Worlds ago, now.
It seems after that day it all turned a different page.
Still RIP John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
Btw, those drums, that funeral, briefly shown in the movie The Boston Strangler, with Tony Curtis, which I am grateful they put that in the movie, so it has been placed, I think as a bit of a memorial to the event.

Thank you. The anniversary is worthy.
I can remember Mom getting mad at me because I was playing with a loud toy that day during the drum beats
One of the things that always stuck in my memory
All hail president good hair the awful.
We were Republicans but when that boy saluted it was perhaps the only time l saw my Father cry.
I was a sophomore in High School. It was a Catholic school so we said the rosary. Then my brother and I were at home alone watching TV which Lee Harvey Oswald was shot. Weird.
I got out of the hospital that day after a breast biopsy..that was when they had you check in the day before, surgery the next day, home the next. After I got home, a friend called to see if I had my TV on..WHY would I have the TV on in the middle of the day? On Sunday, she did the same - when Oswald was shot...I still have a tape recording of the DRUMS at the funeral. I remember most of that day - the family on the steps of the Cathedral, young John saluting, the horse “Blackjack” with the rider’s boot backward in the stirrup...I read later that Jackie’s dad’s nickname was “Blackjack” and they didn’t want to tell her the name of the horse.. Also Ted was wearing a suit of Robert’s or vice versa....
In the following years, I read every book I could find on the family...Rose running her family like an Army General - I guess with the number of kids she had, she had no choice.
‘Fess up — in those days, I voted Democrat!! Had pictures of JFK on the wall in my living room for years.
My Dad always said JFK was the last good Democrat.
My old man was a pretty smart guy, in retrospect.

I was a senior in highschool. When I came home my mother was waiting on the front lawn crying.
Heartbreaking story 😢
Yes. Seeing that little boy saluting his father as his coffin passed by still hurts.
Appreciate your story.
Thank you.
Tv in those days was not much on in the daytime.
Interesting about the horse. I just saw the horse watching the Rumble link janetjanet998 put up. Thank you, janetjanet998.
DLfromthedesert I get it. Seeing your mother cry, painful. If one hadn’t been ‘there’ on that day I don’t think it’s completely able to ‘know’ and why we don’t forget.
Sometime in the 70s or 80s, November 22nd became just another day and not an invitation to remember JFK.
My old man (Navy, WW2. Battle of Lehte) did not much like Kennedy.
I was 4 1/2. And I remember it clearly. Not the shooting, in live time. But the funeral… yes. And the drums, and watching my mother cry.
“”My Dad always said JFK was the last good Democrat.””
Your dad was right...that’s why we grew up respecting our dads and parents in general...trait sure lacking today!!!
Today the left would call him a nazi facist. Trrrible moment. America moved SHARPLY left after that. Reagan would have still won, but with out all of the leftist rot.
Thank you janetjanet for that link.
Sad thing about time is that most of those drummers are now dead.
