Comedian Jay Leno is taking his wedding vows seriously.
Leno candidly opened up about honoring the promises he made more than 40 years ago as his wife, Mavis, battles advanced dementia.
"The idea that you get married and take these vows — nobody ever thinks they’ll be called on to act on them, you know?" Leno said on the "Today" show.

Politics aside (as some may comment about here), he’s a very decent human.

Dementia claims a minimum of two victims, the one who suffers from it and the one who loves that person and is torn apart by the decline.

I read or heard he only spent the money from stand-up even when hosting the Tonight Show.

My wife has had dementia for the past three years. The first two were terrible, with her confusion and loss of memory, but, still being mobile, she had a tendency to wander off quite a bit, which drove me to distraction and worried me constantly.
This last year has been very bad with her even greater loss of memory, but, as her movement has now restrained by 24-hour oxygen and restriction to a wheelchair, at least I don't have to worry about her wandering off any more ...
I guess I'm just trying to look for the threads of silver in this cloud ...

My dad had dementia, but he was lucid half the time, and we could have decent conversations. In the end his body was just plain worn out. It will be 26 years in January. He was limited to what he could do physically, that’s where we came in.
His last week was in a nursing home.
