My wife has had dementia for the past three years. The first two were terrible, with her confusion and loss of memory, but, still being mobile, she had a tendency to wander off quite a bit, which drove me to distraction and worried me constantly.
This last year has been very bad with her even greater loss of memory, but, as her movement has now restrained by 24-hour oxygen and restriction to a wheelchair, at least I don't have to worry about her wandering off any more ...
I guess I'm just trying to look for the threads of silver in this cloud ...

My mother in law too. It is just horrific. The time comes when a nursing is what must happen. At that point her best days were her worst days because on those days she realized where she was and what had happened to her.

My condolences on your loss. I lost my mother several years ago and she had stroke related dementia, though they tried to tell me she had Alzheimer's (different
meds for that diagnosis don't ya know). They changed the diagnosis under intense, pointed questioning to stroke related dementia. Liver failure got her in the end.
Was it demntia or Alzheimer's? An autopsy is the only way to be 100% certain it was Alzheimer's. It's guesswork otherwise.

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, both with your mom’s passing but also the loss that Alzheimer’s/dementia steals from families.
Mr. mm’s mom and grandmother both had it. It was awful.

My condolences, Lurker.
My husband had Alzheimer's and died 6 months ago but not from that. The congestive heart failure got him first which was a blessing. A horrible disease indeed.

So deeply sorry for the loss that occurred over so many years, Lurker. I truly thought the problem of Alzheimer’s would have been solved by now. Men can go to the moon and dream of Mars, and people still have to endure such an illness. One of those things that are just not right or just.
