Explanation: The night side of Pluto spans this shadowy scene. In the stunning spacebased perspective, the Sun is 4.9 billion kilometers (almost 4.5 light-hours) behind the dim and distant world. It was captured by far flung New Horizons in July of 2015 when the spacecraft was at a range of some 21,000 kilometers from Pluto. That was about 19 minutes after its closest approach. A denizen of the Kuiper Belt in dramatic silhouette, the image also reveals Pluto's tenuous, surprisingly complex layers of hazy atmosphere. Near the top of the frame the crescent twilight landscape includes southern areas of nitrogen ice plains now formally known as Sputnik Planitia and rugged mountains of water-ice in the Norgay Montes.

From the first day of the shut down. Only recently posted.
I miss Pluto! Maybe President Trump can reinstate her as a planet again? ;)
It looks like Pluto was humiliated and just turned out the lights. Just because she is not fat enough.
What I don’t get is that Pluto is a solid rock like a ‘planet’ should be, and yet we have Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, which are just huge GAS BALLS floating around in our Solar System that DO count as ‘planets.’
Unfair!
Pluto isnât legally a planet, since it was born in the Kuiper Belt and hasnât passed the background checks or submitted the proper forms.
Pluto has that ‘Hound Thang’ down pat! :)
I raise Treeing Walker Coon Hounds and Plott Hounds.
Well, there ya go! ;)
Good boy, Pluto!
Yes to this idea. Clyde Tombaugh is likely pinwheeling in his grave every time some Ivy League egghead calls it a “dwarf planet”.
The left would never go for it. Marxists are thoroughly opposed to Plutocrats.
An illegal planet; Dems allow it to sneak in.
Yeah and give it free dood, healthcare, housing, and NASA projects.
Pluto is for stoners because itâs far out.
And build some stuff on it - Dem outhouse maybe?

I got to hear Clyde Tombaugh speak when he was 83 or 84 years old. Great talk, full of enthusiasm for science. He died a couple of weeks before his 91st birthday...when Pluto was still a planet.
