Older adults who regularly listen to or play music appear to have significantly lower risks of dementia and cognitive decline. The data suggests that musical engagement could be a powerful, enjoyable tool for supporting cognitive resilience in aging.

I love me some John Cage, especially 4′33″. It’s best on vinyl.

To this day I can't stand diesel fumes from a bus.
I bet learning to play music is very beneficial too. I took up one of the more complicated instruments out there in my 50s and by 1 or 2 hours of practice I feel exhausted.
When I was touring, one year our bus driver had previously driven for James Brown. He had some interesting stories.
My husband must be the exception to the rule.
Oh God, we had one for a bit. What a piece of junk, looked like something out of horror movie. The funniest story was the band leader who was a chick singer. She made the band wear pajamas on the bus! Boy did they get the kidding about that. We made it into airplanes near the end, that was nice. That was when I learned that stars make all the big money and sidemen are screwed. So, I got out, now I just play for enjoyment and no more road nights.
I have 4 streaming services; Spotify Family, Qobuz and Amazon Music and Sirius XM. I sold almost all my albums.
He started taking requests, and I, in the very back, hollered, "4'33"!"
The whole audience were all music majors like me, who had to be there, and the guy sucked. So that got a good laugh.
Much to our relief, he ended the gig early.
Yeah, it’s a huge space; high ceilings. Made half a wine cellar and was just staring at this remaining 1,000 sf depressing box.
Has spectacular electrical service with surge protection designed to stop EMP (lighting arrestor, industrial surge protection (not the same)), noise filter, etc. All separate circuits with a common, serious, ground.
Dead silent, as most of it 15 feet is under the pool itself.
Great, quiet, ventilation.
And so I set out to make an idealized listening room.
Getting very large, heavy, speakers and subwoofers down the stairs was the hardest part.
“John Cage”
Lol.
My grandmother who lived to be 106 listened to Schubert Piano Music.
It is amazing.
I just remembered, this guy actually broke several strings in one of our two Steinway grand pianos. Pissed off Dr. Marchionni, that was his favorite piano.
Willie Nelson has entered the chat.
Their 1968 recording of the song is probably the most popular. Ozzie Nelson was apparently the first one to release the tune in 1931, and it became a big hit for several acts in the spring of that year. It was a hit again in 1950 when Frankie Laine waxed it.
What an incredible keyboard player he was. He could do anything with a piano, organ, synth, and make it shine. R.I.P. Lyle Mays.
1I am ashamed that I have never heard of him before. Did a little research, seems like a very interesting musician. I will have to listen to 4’33.
Make sure you have "Sultan's of Swing" playing in the background. You'll be surprised at how much the harmony matches exactly.
Damn, now I want one! We have enough property to do it too. Actually on the serious side, a bomb shelter is making more and more sense for what it just is. Today’s political climate is getting pretty tense.
I love Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. His solo albums as well. I’ve seen him 4 times and each time was just pure ear candy. Was listening to “Planet of New Orleans” today, great horns and his guitar solo at the end. I replayed it 4 times, on 10.
