ALEXANDRIA, VA — Inspired by the Trump White House's move toward 50-year mortgages, popular burger chain Five Guys announced it would be addressing the ongoing "Five Guys Affordability Crisis" with convenient 50-year burger financing.
"We get it. Things are expensive, especially our burgers," the company said in a public press release. "But new burger financing options make our menu more accessible to the average consumer than ever. Sign up for 10-year, 30-year, or even 50-year financing options. No credit check required!"
Economists urged customers not to sign up for Five Guys' burger financing program, warning that the interest alone will amount to $10,000. "It doesn't hurt as much up front, but this is really just a price hike disguised as a discount," warned economic expert Paul Krugman.
Five Guys CEO Jerry Murrell, the first of the five guys, dismissed concerns that he was conning consumers and argued that their burger financing options adhere to the Wimpy code. "J. Wellington Wimpy from ‘Popeye' simply wanted to pay people Tuesday for a hamburger today," Murrell explained. "This is the same principle. We'll gladly give you a burger today, and you can gradually pay it off for the rest of your life."
Despite expert concerns, however, customers were already flocking to Five Guys, with diners slowly realizing that the typical person doesn't buy one burger over the course of their life, they buy several hundred.
"One burger costs a lot if you pay for it all at once, but I can spread that cost out over several decades," said local burger consumer Tony Hart. "But that's the future's problem. I'll let my grandkids deal with it."
At publishing time, Five Guys opened a new division within their company seeking full-time repo men to handle customers who fall behind on their burger payments.

No argument here.
I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday (fifty years from now) for a hamburger today!
Good burgers except expensive and no proprietary sauce. At IN N OUT, the sauce is the boss. 5 guys has excellent fries though, sinful actually.
If you order your IN N OUT fries “light” which is off the secret menu....they are much better. Softer and delicious.
Best fries and burgers anywhere!
Yes 5 guys fries are awesome.
However the standard burger is a double and they will charge you accordingly for that unless you specifically order a single......I’ve always found that to be a bit deceitful IMO.

Steak and Shake has the best deal on a fresh grilled burger
I almost thought this was real for a second.
A Mexican cruise is cheaper than running for the border at Toxic Hell. Yo Quiero?
Their burgers & fries are very good, but not so good that I would get involved paying interest on them. Right now they don’t even have a store where I live & I occasionally got one when we were in a larger city. Been at least a couple years since I had one, so no telling what they cost now, but they are very good.

yes, great observation.I learned my lesson. And agree..it’s a bit deceptive. the fries....when the grease goes through the bag....you know they are good! LOL
Shake Shack needs to do this too. One hamburger with avocado plus a small fries was $20. That’s the last time I went there.
I’m surprised five guys is allowing this type of advertising to be handed out as it is not a good image builder. There may be a lawsuit in their future. Even the Bee can’t do some things.

BTTT!!!
I stopped at 5 Guys 2 years ago and was surprised at the cost of over $15 for a burger and fries. While decent food I didn’t (and still don’t) see value in it. Whataburger remains by fast food burger joint of choice.
Unfortunately there are no Whataburgers in Michigan, but I get to Huntsville AL at least once a year to get my fix.

Yep, always hot and fresh, not sitting in a rack. A small order of fries is easily enough for 2 or 3 people at least at our area 5 Guys. I don’t think of 5 Guys as a necessarily a fast food place since everything is cooked to order.
It's name comes from the fact that dad had five sons. He sat down with them & said I can either send you all to college, or I can fund you starting a business. What do you choose?
They all picked the bruger shack known as Five Guys Burgers, obviously. They soon were receiving great wtite-ups in the local papers & magazines and soon grew to two locations in that area.
About 10 years later is when I started seeing the franchises begin to pop-up. Which was perfect fr me, when I had bought 12 acres in King Geoorge Va. & built a house on, with deeded access to Potomac Creek at the mouth to the Potomac River.
The only bad aspect was the commute into MCI, located next to the Pentagon, which was on the North side of I-95, & MCI on the south side of I-95.
I stop at the nearby store, here in York PA, 2-3x/ month, and really enjoy their food, when I’m not cheffing. Thanks for the history; I didn’t know they were a VA start-up. Are you still doing that awful commute to work?
