Was a decent little movie. Wild West in space sort of vibe, with Sheriff Connery! He also had another good sleeper flick around this same time, ‘The Name of the Rose’. Good mystery movie set near the end of medieval times.
My favorite scene is where Peter Boyle comes out of the john at the same time the toilet is flushing.
It’s a retelling of High Noon. It does also have Alien universe vibes because of the mining factory in space.
I remember it—one of my favorite SciFi thrillers.
Human corruption is not just for Earth!
Yup, The Name of the Rose is a good flick too. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that one. Outland is basically a remake of High Noon in a sci-fi setting. I think it pulls it off very well. Connery had really good chemistry with Frances Sternhagen who plays a crusty, cynical doctor.
I vaguely remember this one. I know I’ve seen parts of it, but I can’t remember if I watched all of it.
Many of the people who worked on the production of Alien also worked on Outland. It really looks like it takes place in the same universe as Alien. The level of technology seems to be about the same.
Here’s a recent trailer. Hope you give it a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7OzKVHzfiI
Outland and Name of the Rose were both extremely good movies and Sean Connery was outstanding in his roles ...
Why?
Only movie to have a Browning B2000 shotgun in it.
Both movies good, imo.
Agree!
Liked both movies!
I wouldn’t call it awesome but it’s a decent and rewatchable movie. Got it on blu-ray, don’t know if I need the 4k version of it...
(although it’s “awesome” compared to anything put out in the last few years... excluding John Wick... :D )
It pretty much defines his character right from the beginning.
Thanks. I’m putting it on my list of mo to watch.
Saw it in the theater. Was impressed by how believably bad it made life in space look.
One of my favorites.
“Maybe they are right. They sent me here to this pile of s*** because they think I belong here. I want to find out if — well if they’re right. There’s a whole machine that works because everybody does what they are supposed to. And I found out — I was supposed to be something I didn’t like. That’s what’s in the program. That’s my rotten little part in the rotten machine. I don’t like it. So I’m going to find out if they’re right.”
Federal Marshal William O’Niel, Outland (1981).
movies, not mo
