Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds denounced the wing of his party he claims is threatening to “co-opt the conservative movement” during a speech at a Miami-Dade GOP fundraiser this week, after an anti-immigration candidate started teasing a primary run against him in Florida’s gubernatorial race. “Since the assassination of Charlie Kirk, there is this strain going on on the right — they’re calling it the ‘woke right,’” U.S. Rep. Donalds said Tuesday. “There’s some strain going on that’s now saying, ‘Not just no illegal immigration, but no legal immigration.’” His comments during the annual Miami Dade GOP Lincoln Day Dinner came one day after the relatively unknown, very online investor and debate tournament founder, James Fishback, 30, announced his plans to join Florida’s gubernatorial race and attacked Donalds online. Fishback, whose mother is an immigrant from Colombia, told the Herald his “hardline anti-immigration platform” is to the right of Donald Trump. He is opposed to all immigration, including work visas, which he thinks promote a “great replacement of American workers,” echoing theories promoted by white supremacists. Donalds’ comments in Miami point to the coming intra-party battle in Florida on how Republicans talk about race, immigration and bigotry during a second Trump term defined by mass deportation — and come amid a broader Republican battle over white nationalists emboldened by the Trump administration. If he wins, Donalds would be the first Black governor in Florida’s history. “Are we going to have a spirit of fear when it comes to people who say they agree with us, but their words do not align with our principles, or are we going to have a spirit of power and say no to the soft bigotry that might be popping up on social media?” said Donalds, who has also supported mass deportations.

There needs to be a twenty year moratorium on all immigration.
From everywhere. Until everyone here is fully assimilated.
Longer if the assimilation should prove sluggish.
Paragraphs are nice to have.
Jeb Bush was NOT a good candidate for President but he did do well for and with Florida and Floridians…
DeSantis too apparently. And for all his faults, I think immigration crackdowns would be handled more smoothly by him. Less distracting ICE raid optics sensationalism. And more serious policy enforcement, budget changes, etc…
I like Byron Donalds but…he needs to just be aware of focusing on Florida as a unique state, and localize his approach.
Agree. This was a policy position that was the rule for decades:
Grok:
“1924-1965”
“National Origins Quota System (1924 Act + 1952 McCarran-Walter Act)“
“Longest sustained restrictive era; annual legal immigration averaged ~150,000–200,000 for 40 year“
Until now, I never realized that Donalds was a fake.
What is “woke right” about Fishback? What does that term even mean?
Why is Donalds against illegal immigration? What arguments could he make that ALSO couldn’t be used to support curtailing legal immigration as Fishback does?
Donalds sounds like a regular GOP-e guy to me....Just say lots of things that sound conservative. Don’t actually do any of them. Don’t try to move the Overton Window by making logically sound arguments. Instead just use advisor approved sound bites like “woke right” and “illegal immigration”. Go the same direction as the Dems and the deepstate but claim that you are helping because you are only going at 75% of the speed.
I’m getting pretty sick of hearing supposedly conservative politicians tell me how some other politician is “too extreme”.
Getting “everyone” assimilated and totally zero immigration are not complimentary goals. Economically we will be weaker with zero immigration, and economic malaise will produce more cultural ghettos instead of assimilation.
We don’t need zero legal immigration. We need smart legal immigration that serves the country above serving any immigrant group interest. It would include a return to nation by nation limits on the numbers of immigrants no matter what basis. It would also mean smart immigration that discovered, looked at and understood the skill areas we had the most need, as a nation, for the nation, not for giant corporations building themselves up on lower-wage H1B labor while qualified Americans remain unemployed.
We need some legal immigration but our current system cannot do it in the best interest of the country.
whacking his ¶¶
Democrats are going to run against nick fuentes in 2026. I can see the ads. Also huge female and minority turnouts.
Congressman Donalds is black, and not an across the board liberal. There’s no place or party he can fit in given the current climate. I am sure some FL Panhandlers won’t even bother showing up to vote, let’s be real, on the basis of race alone. And he’s not Latino like much of South Florida is either. So we shall see if he can overcome this. Sad but true. I like him in D.C. not sure how he’d be as an executive though.
I like Byron Donald’s. I think he will heed good advice, like yours, do well in the campaign and as governor.
“There needs to be a twenty year moratorium on all immigration. From everywhere. Until everyone here is fully assimilated. Longer if the assimilation should prove sluggish.”
Agreed. We’ve been swamped by both illegal and legal immigration. How about a little sanity where we decide who WE NEED and WANT? Do we want legal immigrants who will take jobs from Americans by working for less? Legal immigrants who come from countries which don’t value freedom and hard work? Legal immigrants who want to work the system? We’ve taken our share of immigrants over the last many years. Let them go elsewhere for a change. (Or stay in their native countries and improve things there.)
“I’m getting pretty sick of hearing supposedly conservative politicians tell me how some other politician is “too extreme”.”
I agree.
Dang, where do I find out more about this Fishback guy? He sounds like someone worth looking into, maybe supporting. Same goes for Jay Collins.
Donalds is my Congressman, but other than appear on Fox News continually I don’t know what he’s really done.
‘Not just no illegal immigration, but no legal immigration.’”
Where does this man keep his head? MAGA have been calling for that for years. But not Sean Hannity certainly; he quickly says how much he likes that 1.5 million immigrants coming in legally. In fact, he probably would not mind 5 million coming in legally per year. Maybe 10, seeing how pure minded he is.
I have ABSOLUTELY no qualms denouncing kids who embrace Hitler/Authoritarianism, no matter which side of the political Aisle they fall on.
I get it you likely grew up without a dad, and you look around and see the world screwing you over daily.. you need to focus that into positive change, not into idol worship or blaming of sub groups.
Your Dad should have taught you this, misdirecting your anger into destructive practices is stupid and utterly self destructive. Channelling and focusing that energy on good things will make you a better man and the world a better place.
I say we drop it to 150,000 and those have to have something we need. Strictly checked for income and ability to pay their way.
No public assistance of any kind to be offered PERIOD.
.
So Commies and moose limbs obviously can never assimilate. They will be the first to tell you that. It's not my words, it's THEIRS.
It's not that hard to figure out. You can't let them immigrate, legally or illegally.
