U.S. Military Kills 6 in Strikes on Suspected Drug Boats, Hegseth Says

The U.S. military killed six people on Sunday in two more strikes on boats suspected of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Monday.

The latest strikes raised the death toll in the campaign to 76 people in 19 attacks in the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea since early September.

In a post on social media, Mr. Hegseth cited “intelligence” and included two short video clips of the bombings of two separate boats that he said were traveling “along a known narco-trafficking transit route in the Eastern Pacific.”

One of the boats appeared to be at a full stop with two visible passengers and possibly with an outboard motor raised out of the water. The other was moving at high speed. But in neither case did Mr. Hegseth provide evidence for his claim that the three men aboard each of the two boats were smuggling narcotics. He said the attacks took place in international waters.

A wide range of specialists in laws governing the use of force have denounced the killings as illegal because the U.S. military is not allowed to intentionally target civilians who pose no threat of imminent violence, even those suspected of being criminals. The Trump administration says the strikes are lawful because President Trump has “determined” that the United States is in a formal armed conflict with drug cartels.

Mr. Trump has falsely asserted that each destroyed boat saves 25,000 American lives. In reality, as many as 100,000 Americans die each year from drug overdoses, but most of those deaths are a result of fentanyl, which comes from labs in Mexico. South America produces cocaine.

The strikes on Sunday came as the U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean was expected to grow sharply with the arrival as soon as this...

We need to change that.

I don’t really want to kill these idiots.

I want to stop the drug trafficking.

I “hope” that killing a few of these idiots will scare off the rest.

But that only happens if “the rest” know about their buddies and the US Navy.

Probably.

Information is power.

Blowing up drug boats is great. Getting that information into Venezuela is greater.

When this started the press and liberals screamed it was illegal.

But I don’t hear anything about that lately.

So the author of the Slimes wants the cocaine let through? But, stop the fentanyl?

"Falsely" and "in reality." According to whom?

Trump never claimed that each interdiction prevents 25,000 overdose deaths. Not all death arising out illegal drug trafficking are overdoses. Many deaths are the result of territorial disputes among the cartels and local drug gangs on the ground in the USA.

So what if South America produces cocaine but not fentanyl. Cocaine is often cut with fentanyl, which is a deadly combination. Heroin which is produced in Columbia and possibly distributed through Venezuela is also cut with fentanyl.

Lastly, how does the NY Times know that Venezuelan gangs and drug cartels are not part of the fentanyl trade? Although most fentanyl entered the USA from Mexico during the Biden administration, Trump has effectively closed the southern border, and as a result, the cartels may have opted for alternate distribution routes through Venezuela.

No they kill unlawful combatants of a designated terror group. Just like Al Qaeda.

Right now, unless you are willing to go into the nations that are shielding them, we can't.

What we are doing instead is taking away their power.

Drugs that never reach market are a net loss. While the bite is not as big as I would like, it is being felt.

Your expenses remain fixed but your profits have dropped. People are now reluctant to work for you carrying your product. They are going to demand more money, better equipment, better protection. You can provide the first, work on the second but the third, because it is happening in international waters, is not something you can do much about.

But it is still cutting into profit, a bit deeper each day.

And with less profit governments are less inclined to let you have a free hand.

The terror groups like FARC that you were using as security are suddenly seeing you as weak.

The more shipments you lose the weaker you are.

I wonder if we have decided to concentrate on one group at a time. Works better then scattershot in my opinion but I am not in charge.

Anyway that is my two cents on the subject. Completely free just for you and worth every penny.
