A nonbinary furry starred in Nike's latest advertising campaign amid a slump in sales at the legendary sportswear brand.

Nike has been beset with poor sales over the past year while competitors like Adidas and Hoka have enjoyed surging profits.

The company's latest campaign, Gaming Division, a collaboration with British designer Martine Rose, is tailored to the video gaming community.

The products launched on October 30 and were modeled by five new gaming-style 'characters' who Nike has described as 'heroes of a modern arena', defined by 'creative energy'.

(.....)

The self-proclaimed furry, who uses he/they pronouns and identifies as gay and nonbinary, is known to compete in a blue-and-white fox suit with a large Sonic the Hedgehog-style head.

Nike's corporate HQ is in Beaverton OR, which is a suburb of Portland.

So a sexually ambiguous furry fits in with their local culture just fine.

Hmm.

A nonbinary furry of color. A triple threat. If the campaign flops they can blame racism.

Imagine explaining this headline to someone from the past. Not the distant past. Say, 2010. {snicker}

Stopped wearing Nike decades ago.
Best court (tennis or basketball) shoe, in my opinion, is Stria. Company started 5 yrs ago, or so.
Phenomenal shoe.

I have a pair of running shoes that have lasted longer than any other tennis shoes I have ever purchased (but yes they were expensive)

“These woke CEOs just don’t learn, do they? “

Learn what?

Did you see what happened when the NFL hired Bad Bunny? Progressives kept on watching the NFL. Conservatives kept watching the NFL.

So what’s the lesson for woke CEOs? Stay woke and keep laughing all the way to the bank.

How many people here on FR announced loud and proud their full intent to NOT shut off the NFL after Bad Bunny?

Companies have no incentive to stop being woke. They kind of only have to worry about Trump and let’s face it, Trump only has 3 years left anyways. We don’t see big tech companies “facing the music” for going woke just like the NFL got away with it. Bud Light was an outlier, a fluke, a one-timer, not a way of life. I wish it were different.

No Nike or Levis for me in 20 years at least. But they aren’t after my demographic.

I wear Asics but it seems like the quality may be sliding.

That could be taken as a sign of Nike’s approval of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. My opinion of Nike is low enough to wonder if that’s why they did it.

I boycott very few companies, and Nike is one of them.

I had not previously heard of Hoka either. Apparently they make sports shoes and likely also clothing.

What is this “Hoka”? I have never heard of that company before. However, years ago I read some science fiction stories about intelligent teddy bears called Hokas, by Poul Anderson & Gordon Dickson. The way they imitated humans was hilarious. Is there a connection between the fictional Hokas and this mascot?

I use New Balance and Saucony for running and walking. They work well. We liked New Balance in the Navy because of the big N on the sides of the shoe.

“Hoka” means “to fly” in Māori. The founders spent a lot of time in New Zealand.

The actual name is “Hoka OneOne” (oh-ne oh-ne) which translates to “fly over the earth”.

The Māori are great sprinter and distance runners but big guys and complained that Nike shoes did not offer sufficient padding for mesomorph builds. And so a shoe was born and hence the name.

I’m damn near a giant (2.5 more inches and I’m 7 feet tall) and a mesomorph. Hokas were damn near designed for me.

Dunno, maybe China-based? I’d be surprised if all the woke BS in these companies is organized by the CCP to undermine successful US companies.
