Press Secretary: In order to reduce the travel time for ships traversing between the Gulf of America and the Atlantic Ocean, the President and Governor of Florida announce a joint project to build a large canal traversing the Florida / Georgia State line. This is an essential project in keeping with the Commerce Clause.
Further, in order to accommodate the ever-increasing size of ships, all bridges spanning the canal will be constructed as draw bridges.
I will now take questions.
Press Secretary: your point?
Reporter 2: And the design for those "Welcome to Florida" arches, it looks very much like a portcullis.
Press Secretary: I'm surprised you didn't remark on the "You are now leaving the American Sector" sign on the Northbound side.
Reporter 3: What about the Panhandle?
Press Secretary: That's where will put all the refugees from New York.
Hell no! The Panhandle is the best part of Florida, send all the refugees to Miami or some other dump in south Florida so they can be with their own kind.
I like that! See if we can get DeSantis on board.
You will have to build a wall, then.
No extra charge. for the alligators.
You are now leaving the American Sector” sign on the Northbound side.
I like that! See if we can get DeSantis on board.

There is precedent: in the early ‘90s I would often travel with fellow gun-enthusiast friends to gun shows in Pennsylvania, from NJ, where we lived. FYI, NJ had just recently passed its “Assault Weapons” ban, and there haven’t been any gun shows with actual guns for sale since the late 1960s. We were traveling on Route 80, and when we got to the “Welcome to Pennsylvania “ sign, right below it was printed in big, bold letters “America Starts Here.” The PA governor at the time was Robert Casey (father of the leftist senator who recently represented PA). Old Bob was a genuine conservative Democrat, opposed to both abortion and gun control. The sign was his way of giving the finger to Flim-Flam Florio, the NJ governor who shoved the AWB and higher taxes down our throats.
Never heard of the old cross florida barge canal?
I hiked the length of it several years ago. From Overlook Point on the West end, to the Flagler Pier. The last 30 miles or so was road-walk.
I just don’t think that is economically feasible.
Drawbridges vs. commuters.
For part of my working life my route to work included a drawbridge. I swear, it was manned by a guy with binoculars yelling “OK, here he comes...OPEN THE BRIDGE!”
Well, it was humor. And what price would you put on isolating Florida from the CSA (Communist States of America)?
