Jim Robinson, the visionary founder of Free Republic and one of the internet’s earliest conservative pioneers, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, in Fresno, California. He was 79.

Longtime readers of this website may remember our frequent posting of Free Republic articles on The Gateway Pundit.

The online community at Free Republic was one of the most devoted and energized conservative grassroots organizations in the country.

----

All of us here at The Gateway Pundit would like to thank Jim and his family for their dedication to the truth and their support for our great nation.

Rest in peace, Jim Robinson.

Just an alert to a comment below the Gateway Pundit article by Reno232, who was Reno with some other numbers behind the screen name. Can't remember now.

This is the comment they made on Gateway Pundit:

"RIP Jim Robinson. He indeed blazed the trail. It was a great site at one point. Unfortunately he openly allowed religious wars to infect the site where anyone who wasn't an evangelical was treated differently and rather harshly, and ultimately many Christian, ardent conservatives, were either kicked off the site, or left voluntarily. He was a good man with a good site, just let the zealots kind of take over. A shame really. May his family find peace and solace in this trying time."

The truth is Reno was his/her own worst enemy on FR. If this person was an evangelical, none of us saw any Christian behavior from them. This person was obnoxious, argumentative, abusive...calling people names, and wouldn't stop writing you, even after you'd asked them politely to stop. It got to a point where people avoided commenting to him/her because they knew how abusive this person could be. And if you didn't know about Reno, and made the mistake of commenting to him/her, you were sorry afterwards. Reno would badger people over and over. This person had been warned by Jim about their behavior in the past, and from what I understand, at some point, Reno self-deported him/herself off FR, and we were all glad to see them go.

I've been here almost 28 years, and if there actually were religious wars going on at FR, I never saw it, because I didn't even open those threads. I know there were some hard feelings on threads when Ted Cruz ran for President in 2016, but if people were suspended, or banned, it was for a good reason, because like Reno, they violated the rules of FR, and violated them more than just once.

There have always been nitwits and troublemakers on FR, even from the beginning. When I joined, there was a Clinton troll called eschoir on the site, who eventually got banned, or self-deported. And there have been, and still are others on the site. Most people know who they are, and avoid them.

"That would be Reno89519."

Yes, thanks for the screen name. I tried to search for Reno as user on FR, but nothing came up, and I was too lazy to go back through months and months of pings to find their actual screen name the last time he'd screamed at me.

I read the comment on Gateway Punit without first noticing the name of the person who had posted it. Then when they blamed Jim for allowing religious wars here, I went back and saw Reno232, and knew exactly who it was. Of all the people who started wars and fights on FR, Reno89529 was at the top of the list.

Looks like a lot of the butthurts/zotted FReepers have swarmed the comments section, at GP!

Tells me they still lurk, here, and clicked on the link to whine immaturely and disrespectfully.

Freepers helping Freepers. That's what the site has been about from the beginning. Like-minded people getting together to talk about not just politics, but plenty of other topics that people are interested in. Freeper rlmorel spoke of that in their wonderful memorial to Jim yesterday.
