A Mississippi mom shot dead one of the aggressive monkeys that escaped from an overturned truck last week to protect her young children.
Jessica Bond Ferguson said she and other Heidelberg residents had been on high alert after word spread that monkeys — believed to be carrying dangerous diseases but later confirmed by officials not to be — had been roaming loose since Tuesday.
Early Sunday morning, her 16-year-old son ran into the house, claiming he had seen one of the animals in the yard.
“I shot at it and it just stood there, and I shot again, and he backed up and that’s when he fell.”
With police and animal control still, the mother of five said she decided to shoot the monkey, fearing it would get away and possibly would become a threat to children at another house in the neighborhood.

The name is Bond. Jessica Bond.
And this is one of the worst-written news stories ever. Almost every sentence seems designed to be misinterpreted, starting with the headline.
The monkey escaped from the truck to protect the woman’s children.
She should have been grateful.
But, a rather awkward headline.
The monkey escaped to protect her children?
Monkeys are filthy aggressive varmints and should be shot on sight.
I just discovered that if you are attacked by javelina, you can and most likely will be arrested if you shoot it.
We were out hiking last night and saw 15 and 6 of them started to chase us.
Looks like if you hit them with a rock, its not considered “hunting”
Practice.
What a pathetic evil world we live in.
You may just have gave some an idea.
“Monkeys are filthy aggressive varmints”
-
I can attest to the aggressive part.

Had a neighbor back in the 70s that had a chimpanzee......a normally very docile female, the owner had to hide his car keys because she was so strong she could bend keys like they were paper clips.
-
One day she escaped her indoor caged area while the owner was not home and found her way into the convenience store next door and proceeded to tear the store apart.
Police were called and were about to shoot her when the owner came home, realized what was happening and convinced the police to allow him to take control of her, which he eventually did.
That event motivated him to move in with an elderly lady that lived at the beach and also had a chimp. That’s when I discovered primate owners are actually a bit of a subculture.
Anyway, the beach home had an indoor/outdoor caged enclosure for the chimps with signs posted prominently to warn beach goers to beware and not approach the outdoor enclosure.
It wasn’t long before two teenaged boys ignored the warnings and one kid got close enough for one of the two primates to grab his hand and bite one of his fingers clean off.
-
True story......every word.

Primates are dangerous are not to be trusted
Sounds like desert living isn’t for everyone. 😁
“ Sorry, I forgot to add the sarcasm tag.
Yes, all us Uppity Yankees still thinks everyone who lives in Mississippi lives in a log cabin or tin roofed shack with five hound dogs.
They eat racoon and pick cotton. Don’t y’all?

I did get the joke.
After seeing Band of Brothers I posted into all their biographies Shifty Powers fascinated me. He was a sniper. The army didn’t teach that they recognized it. He grew up with a nice family but in the hills. He learned to shoot by shooting every day. Took tips from the elders. He said I’m an ok shot but dad could shoot the wings off a fly. I bet it’s close
He would bring his mother squirrels and she knew how to process them.
I am a New Yorker. Military brought me to the south and my farm boy husband and family got my home into a more outdoors-practical mode, along with my forefront all over the country
And the military taught me how to properly handle a weapon
Considering what this woman did I can recognize her excellence
Last time I saw a snake here it was unwelcome. Husband was above the clouds far from any landing. I jumped over to the neighbor’s, an old VN helicopter pilot, and in 5 minutes I had him, with his snake catching kit, another heavy, now UPS pilot and a slew of kids following like something out of a Hans Christian Anderson story
They wrangled it and asked me what I wanted to do with it would it be ok to walk it to the creek. It was harmless
Sure. Just get it out of here. Off they went in a parade.
Said she shoot a dead monkey.
Isn’t it still a wild monkey? I believe I read the ones in FL are mean.
See how you just equated shooting a monkey with shooting humans as moraly equivalent? Its not.
But....She did not really even need to justify it as a potential threat if she could see it from her porch. It existed as a threat to her and her children.
The Police were shooting the Monkeys that escaped the crates on the spot something widely reported. It was widely described as an aggressive animal, i.e., dangerous. A lot of people shoot coyotes and prairie dogs that “might become a threat” to people, flocks, or even just their lawns or pasture land. Cows often break their legs in badger or prairie dog holes somewhere in the back pasture, never right up by the barn where its easy to get to them.
That said, she was a good shot. Give her an Annie Oakley award!
Oh ya. I consider a monkey wildlife. An escaped frightened aggressive unpredictable diseased monkey
I would be still, quiet, quiet everyone in the hose with the threatening demeanor of a black and white clad Dominican nun, slowly open the door, make sure the area is secure, aim and shoot to kill And shoot again. I always listen to Jack Bauer
If you put half a dozen monkeys in a room with a keyboard, eventually they will bang out a headline just like this one.

“.. to be carrying dangerous diseases but later confirmed by officials not to be“
‘Ok.’
I meant ‘yeah. Right’
Oh. You were referring this
Ya. They were carrying monkeys around for what reason other than bio lab experimentation. Of course I consider them diseased. Of course I believe the authorities only way after proof.
Same here. And after I've blasted a Black Widow with Raid, I'll stomp it into a smear. It's the only way to be sure.
