If we were living in a simulation, this is exactly the kind of story they’d put out to assure everyone it’s not true!

Uhm...if we are a simulation then we have no clue how physics works in the real world that the computer or simulator is running in right? Does the physics of a video game have to match real life physics??

When I was a kid I thought that once people were out of sight from me that they ceased to exist, until they reappeared. I thought that when I was a kid…….
Growing up in an Italian (Sicilian) family, my mom and dad spoke Italian to my grandparents. I didn’t know there were different languages. I thought that was how old people talked- “Old People Language”. When I was a kid…………

We ARE living in a delusion of sorts. So, the metaphor is apt.

If we were living in a simulation, then there must be a reality in which a computer exists powerful enough to run the simulation.
A simulation requires a reality.

TLDR: Gödelian truths are proof of real existence.
Gödelian truths refer to statements that are true within a formal system (like arithmetic) but cannot be proven using the axioms and rules of that system itself.
A Gödelian truth is like a puzzle that says “This puzzle has no solution in this box.” You can see it’s true (the box really has no solution), but you can’t prove it using only the pieces inside the box.
In short, we build math on unprovable assumptions.

If the universe is a simulation, what is it a simulation of? A real universe? Itself a simulation of an even realer universe, et cetera.
Analysis: "The universe is a simulation" schtick was always them just f**king with us.

“Thanks to the strangeness of quantum physics, no computer, however powerful, would ever be able to generate what the researchers call ‘non-algorithmic understanding’.”
Then maybe a quantum computer can. They’re just around the corner.

The article is classic reification—confusing math and theoretical constructs with reality.
It is a very common fallacy of much of “science”.

Since it hurts when you impact the universe for all practical purposes it is quite real.
I don’t care if people want to engage in thought experiments. As long as I don’t have to pay for it.
