Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears’ campaign bus burst into flames while the Republican gubernatorial candidate was driving to a campaign event ahead of election day.
A photo taken by a passerby on Route 33 Spotswood Trail in Greene County shows the back of the bus — with a blown-up photo of Earle-Sears’ face painted on the side — completely engulfed in flames on the side of the road.
One firefighter was injured while responding but was treated at the scene and later released, the agency said.

Yeah, that was my first thought when I saw the story yesterday. In addition, many are saying the special session in Richmond was engineered to draw Sears off the campaign trail.
Took the MINI up Route 33 this past summer. Nice drive, with lots of cool little towns along the way. Well, it’s nice until your carriage bursts into flames...
I guess this means I’ll get at least four or five more fund raising appeals from her to pay for a new bus.

An interent search turned up lots of articles on this occurence. Every single one of them uses passive language (”the bus caught fire”). None of the stories report on or speculate about the cause. None of them interview anyone on board, or the bus operators, or law enforcement. None even say the cause is under investigation. Strange indeed. It will be interesting to see if better reportage follows.
I am fervently hoping and praying that Winsome wins this.
