Happened at the Bridge Street Towne Center Mall - Huntsville, Alabama. I had parked in the above ground parking garage. I was walking back towards my car (2020 Kia Optima) about 30 minutes after parking. Two young men standing outside of the garage. One was looking at his cell phone and then he addressed me: "Hi, Sir. Are you just getting off work?" I looked at him suspiciously and just said "no". When I got to my car, there was a junk car (missing on one cylinder) parked next to my drivers side and he started up his engine and drove off.
I know now that (highly suspect) the one kid asked me about getting off work to find if I'd be back there at the same time on a different day. And yes, they were all teenage-ish "Amish" males. I'm certain that the three were working as a team. Not only that, there were many suspicious looking Amish (male and female) out and about that mall that night. This alone was strange because most of the businesses close at 11pm. It was about 10:30 when I went back to my car. I bet that they all knew each other and someone spotted my Kia and made a cell call to the group that everyone knows as the "car-theft-crew".
Incidentally, these Amish kids that were hanging out as two or three here and there were all wearing matching pajama-looking pants. Must be a 'thing' for these kids these days.
I'm now looking at anti theft devices for my Kia. I'm also getting a police detective involved.

Consider parking elsewhere you shouldn’t have to but...
Ok. Sure. Good idea. I’ll just look for the “Car-Theft-Free Zone” signs. Thanks.
Just tell the police that they look like early Swedes minus the blue eyes.
Excellent situational awareness, FRiend...:)
So it was stolen by African American teens, or was not stolen by African American teens?
I’m having a hard time figuring out exactly what happened, beyond a weird feeling you had when a black boy asked you a question.
Why is the car slowing down?
Why is the horn making such a noise?
Why are the doors locked?
Try the windows.
Bro, I think you drove in the wrong part of town.
How would I know his uncle’s name?
These 57 Question auto security systems are just too much.
Jayzus. NOT. Ffs.
Google it. This is NOT a not-nice part of town.
Nope. I'm a mob hitman and my day is just getting started.
The kid actually said “Hi, Sir.”??
Young people say that a lot here in Idaho. But I wouldn’t expect it down your way.
Can you get some sort of tracking device in your car, like an Apple AirTags, or something similar? Just in case it does get stolen, at least you’ll be able to track it.
Do you really think he said that sincerely? Give me a fkg break.
The Boot is an effective car theft device.
Please tell us you carry or at least, have one in your car.
You might want to carry some police grade pepper spray in your front pocket like I do. If you do, make sure you know how to use it.
Gun show coming up here in two weeks. I’m getting a smaller one. Pepper spray too.
It’s an odd-assed thing to ask someone out of the blue, whether he was black, white, or polka-dotted, and you damn well know it.
When i owned my toyota supra i would pop the hood and pull out the fuel injection fuse.
Took less than 45 seconds and gave me piece of mind..
It’s odd to ask for clarification about whether the car was stolen?
The title implies that his car was stolen, but the paragraphs in the explanation do *not* say it was stolen.
I’m just trying to figure out if it was stolen, or if he was only afraid it might be stolen.
