Furloughed federal workers in Maryland stood in a food bank line Tuesday as the government shutdown continues and families try to figure out how to put food on the table.
The Capital Area Food Bank began free food distributions for federal workers and contractors this week in Hyattsville. With an hour to go before food was handed out, a long line of people waited for help.

People get fired all or laid off all the time and have to figure out how to put food on the table. Its an unfortunate part of life. Having a national media organization use you as a political pawn to advance a liberal cause when you are in that position does not make it any easier.
I think the article quoted two people using the food bank. Neither quote included anything like a “Damn that Trump” so I just bet neither person attacked Trump (the media would use the line if they said the line). I further speculate that both women said something like “Damn the Democrats” but that the media decided not to include that in the story.
I think the Dems are losing big on this.
Is she also standing in the iPhone line? The satellite dish line? The video game line? The new car line? The tattoo line? The lip piercing line? The Taylor Swift ticket line?
Wow, retired military pension, now a federal job, and no savings or credit cards and already stripped bare cupboards at home.

I did go and look at the article after I posted (a proud FReeper tradition!) and caught the lack of blame. I suspect you are correct in your thinking.
IF she actually served honorably for 21 years she gets a pension. It she is so stupid to live so far beyond her income she needs free food after one month she is too stupid to work for govt. I call BS

If you want stability you learn to live within your means, set sufficient money aside for an emergency fund, and tighten your belt when you get hit with life’s unexpected expenses. Most feds in the DC area enjoy bloated paychecks and live beyond their means.
So this person lived absolutely hand-to-mouth for 21 years and saved nothing?
I find that a bit hard to believe.
Twenty years in the military and she can’t scrape by for a few weeks on her hefty retirement payments?
Just as an aside, Kraft Mac n’ Cheese actually tastes pretty good when prepared correctly, has substantial food value, and is easy to ‘spruce up’ into a complete meal.
Expect to hear a ton of these performative sob stories in the coming weeks.
