Computer experts please.

Posted on 10/22/2025 6:26:43 AM PDT by LouAvul

I own four computers. Two desktops. One laptop. One Microsoft notebook.

Three have Win 11. One has 10.

Lately, on a desktop w/11, frequently, when I'm searching google for data, when I type in the phrase or business or topic, I'll get a captcha test. It's becoming more frequent.

I always clear my cache, run ccleaner, clear history, etc. It's still happening. And none of my other computers are doing it.

When it happens, it starts with the "I'm not a robot" box which I check. Directly underneath it has some computer lingo with the word "google" in it. And as soon as I check the box, the captcha image appears.

Is this common? Can it be disabled?

Same thing happened to me, especially if I have VPN or ad blockers on. I moved to StartPage.com.

Sometimes I get that when it takes too long to load data- I live in an area where the internet connection is frequently slow. When I get the captcha request, I open another window and close the one that wants to verify me. Works okay that way.

No one FR should be using Google as a default search engine. Google hates you, all of us, that is obvious.

Brave browser and search for me.

If you are using a VPN, this is a regular occurrence...

I use the Brave browser on Win 11 and my searches default to using Brave.

There’s another system that I’ve started running into that is worse. It’s hold down the mouse button into the oval box turns green. But instead of letting you in the site, you have to repeat the process in an endless loop. I usually decide I don’t need to go to that site anyway and give up.

Stupidest thing I’ve run across on the internet. Walmart product search had it for a while. It seems to have gone away, maybe they fired the exec that approved it.

I am more likely to get the captcha test if I am traveling. The websites know your IP address and if they also have left cookies they know your computer is in a different area because the IP address changes, for some reason they care. Also if you use a VPN that will change the IP address seen by the website, but the cookies still indicate what computer you are using. The IP addresses used by the VPN are also probably on a list somewhere so websites can tell if you are using a VPN which they don’t like.

Running CCleaner and clearing history is the reason. When you authenticate, a cookie is placed on your computer so it knows you passed authentication. When you run CC and clear history, you delete the cookie, so it runs you thru it again.

I do a lot of searching.

Google has locked me out twice.

I’m using DuckDuckGo.

I always use Startpage as well. For me, it’s the best option out there. Plus I use a few adblockers as well.

Brave browser and search for me.

Brave's search engine is crummy for my uses. I do not have a Google account and cannot log into Google/YouTube. I am starting use Grok AI as a search engine substitute.

There is no great substitute for Google Maps' street view, and Rumble is not quite ready to be a complete replacement for YouTube.

I’m getting Captcha on Indeed Job website, regardless of frequent use.

Indeed is probably subject to more ‘bot attacks than most other sites.

I’ll grant you there are things Google must be used for. Maps for sure.
