Ukrainian President Zelensky delivered a pointed rebuke to Donald Trump's assessment of the war in Ukraine on Friday, insisting Vladimir 'Putin doesn't want peace' even as the American president continued to express confidence a resolution was in sight.
'We want peace, Putin doesn't want peace. That's why we need pressure on him,' Zelensky said, underscoring Kyiv's call for stronger US support.
At the same meeting, Trump said he believed Putin wants to finish the war.
'I think President Putin wants to end the war, or he wouldn't be talking this way,' Trump said.
Later in questions with reporters, Trump said he was concerned about being played by Putin.
'I have been played all my life by the best of them,' Trump acknowledged, a signal of his lingering reticence with Putin following a long conversation with the Russian leader on Thursday.
Zelensky start off his part of the speech celebrating Trump's success in the Middle East and saying that the momentum for peace in Europe is strong, and that Russia's defense forces are losing strength.
'I am confident with your help that we can stop this war. We see that they do not have success on the battlefield, they are weaker now,' Zelensky said.

The western part of the Ukraine doesn’t have minerals. All they have is farmland, which is great, but they won’t be able to ship it via Odessa unless the Russians allow it. There is no reason for “an Ukraine”. Might as well carve it up and give it to Poland and Byeloruss.

Lots of people all over the world think that the real Putin did not go to Alaska. Not just me. But, go on defending the one who pays you.
I actually tracked Putin’s plane coming in from Moscow to Magadan (a symbolic stop, there is a WW II monument there). Flight24 had it the whole way. The Russians have a small squadron of IL-96 planes for VIP travel. Putin’s was designated IL-96-300PU.
The body double theory falls apart because of the presence of so many well-known staff. Lavrov was there and interviewed. Recall the troll he offered up with a CCCP sweatshirt? As was also Kirill Dmitriev, their SWF portfolio manager, who has become buddies with Wyscoff in discussing various investment opportunities, and who met with him again at Elmendorf.
You can safely put the body double theory to bed. There were too many additional staff there who are recognizable and without whom some real Putin at home could not run his government and thus could not risk their mass arrest.
There is too much flailing about concerning Zelensky.
He’s doing everything he can to win.
As for Putin, he’s pretty clearly the greatest leader Russia has had since Peter the Great. He has secured Russia’s leadership position in the BRICs and Russia’s oil prospects are the brightest in the entire world (which is really the only measurement that matters).
He has isolated the US and Europe from the rest of the world and though this doesn’t matter all that much, the population does. The addition of the Donbas and Crimea grows his population. He has also protected the Russian language in those locales.
Zelensky has had far less time to achieve things, and he faces what he faces, near zero odds that Russia will accept his government and fund ongoing reparations.
There is no doubt about his effort to pursue the narrowest of paths to win. They only criticism might be the cost in lives he is enduring. Those dead soldiers could have a life under a Russian government. Soldiers don’t have ideological conversations on a battlefield. They just try to fight to help their buddies standing next to them.
If a government told them to go home and make babies, any government, that is what they would do.
It is a shame you don’t understsnd that the body double could fly on Putin’s plane!!
And it is very well established that Putin uses several doubles. And you can’t all the info all around the internet. His staff knows about it.

You missed the point. Unless Lavrov has a double and Kirill Dmitriev, they were all at the same risk that Putin was. If he was staying home but sent them, then he was risking the people he needs to run the government. No reason for him to do that.
There is then the issue of the discussions. The body double would have had to be prepared with knowledge of all the positions Putin had pre-defined for the discussions.
And there are the previous meetings with Trump containing events not public that could be casually inquired concerning. A non Putin would be thus exposed.
Or, of course, given the superior tech in China for humanoid robots, that could be Putin, not detectable. Meaning, body doubles are somewhat passe.
Lavrov did all the serious talking in Alaska. Not “Putin”
