Now the "joy" of finding another plan. Wondering if I should just go back to traditional medicare...add a supplemental.
...but know that is probably going to be a lot more expensive.
You know how I saved money? I made an appointment at Social Security and one of their agents helped me navigate the labrynth of rules and paperwork. No fancy dinners, No hidden fees, no commissions.
"and it can't get up!"
That is not correct information. I am on Medicare advantage plan for 8 years. There is zero cost to be a member for 8 years running. Actually MA plan has paid me cash every month!
My wife had stage-4 cancer for 6 years. She was on MA from Humans for all 6 years. Whatever treatments her oncologist doctor prescribed, MA Humans approved. There was a yearly limit for our of pocket charges around $4000. That’s all we had pay. The treatments were billed at $35,000 to $37,000 PER MONTH! We only had to pay $4000 for whole year.
Medicare Advantage has always been a GWB scam to direct additional money to insurance companies without requiring itemized services for them.
It gets sold to old folks with the “no premiums” pitch, but then they find it won’t cover some of their essential medical needs (such as back surgery).
I agree, my experience is that Advantage is superior to Supplement, cost wise, to date. In my area, a decent supplement plan, including drugs, dental and vision, costs around $400 per month. I am currently paying $200 for an advantage plan I can live with. I pay this much because I am prescribed one drug whose retail cost is $540 per month. Insurance cuts it to $40 per month.
Oregon health insurance is expensive.
Please read my post #25.
Most of the majors offer both Supplement plans and Advantage plans.
So you can’t really declare that a company is enjoying explosive growth if it is not outperforming the S&P, and offers both plans.
There’s mostly no magic. You pay the big Supplement plan monthly, in comparison to $0/month Advantage, and until you get sick, that is reality and accumulates a difference. After you get sick, you pay Advantage co-pays — which have an annual max.
As for travel, both categories will provide some coverage out of your area — but frankly, if your trip is to be substantial you should have travel insurance.
Hope your health will be good in future. MA plan has paid both me and my wife $164 per month each. Cost is nothing. I guess we live in a fortunate area. I understand the cost varies from county to county.

I’ve been paying $119 per month on my supplemental, with a deductible of under $500 per year. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer two years ago (I’m since in remission) and I’ve had absolutely NO co pays, ever. Not one. I think the hospital must have absorbed the initial 500 bucks.
I was treated for over two years. My only out of pocket was an angel flight that I paid 2k of over 12k.
I wouldn’t get on MA for all the tea in China. Having said that, my prescription plan has ballooned into almost 90 bucks a month while experiencing a co-pays at pick up when I paid nothing before after a 300 deductible.
This year, during open enrollment I am definitely considering the MA prescription plan, which my husband has, for the ridiculous price of 0.35 a month. But I’m keeping my non MA supplemental for everything else.
Will review.
my blue cross/blue shield medicare advantage HMO plan works just great. I have had this one for 5 yrs now. just as good as the commerical plan i had when working
original medicare plus a supplement plus part D is expensive period.
thta is part of the rampant fraud waste and abuse in the medicare/medicaid space “free” stuff that can be billed to medicare/medicaid..
I get the same in the mail or at the local phar, or i get stuff from my advantage plan..
