Erikson's voyages were during the Medieval Warm Period, when Greenland was green (the earth was probably warmer than it is now).

Picture the scene, the Nina Pinta and Santa Maria are anchored in the harbor, Columbus and the Indian chief are raising tankards of the local brew, and the Chief says “Skoal!”

...Leif Erickson once had a boat; it was a leaky scow.
He said, “To beat Columbus, we has got to leave right now.”
The boat was leaking badly as they neared the USA,
But he plugged the holes; yeah, lefse saved the day...

Leif’s father was Eric the Red. He had a best friend named Rudolph who was a weather forecaster. He told Leif to pack an umbrella as there was a storm brewing but it looked sunny out. His wife asked why he was carrying an umbrella. Leif said “Rudolph the red knows rain, dear.”

Linda Crystal (pictured) was probably the most beautiful woman on 1960’s television. Her and Barbara Eden.

When the Vikings landed on that large island, the temps were so warm he named it “Greenland” for its’ lush green environment...
...and then it got so cold from global cooling, ice began forming all over the island.

In the 1964 film, "Ride The Wild Surf", Barbara Eden was a redhead and Shelly Fabares was a blond.
ps: Jan & Dean's title song was their best single - great surf song!!!

In honor of Leif, I'm going to drink some vodka and raid France and eat some Norwegian Escargot (Ludefisk). I will join you in the first two but I am not eating Ludefisk (the piece of cod that passes all understanding) again.
I have had it at a Sons of Norway Banquet and at Lutheran church supper. If the Lutherans can not make it edible no one can.

You need to find a bottle of Norwegian Akvavit (potato based, so I guess it is Vodka). I remember having it as a kid. All I can recall is that it had an oily taste and texture to it. Looking it up just now, that is due to the use of caraway and dill seeds used in the process.
