A two year old getting his teeth capped? That is abuse right there, they were not taking care of his teeth to allow that to happen.

They’re still baby teeth that will fall out in a few years. Why?

I have two nephews whose mother let them have a bottle in their mouth round the clock and their baby teeth rotted. We’re talking, like, black teeth. If I remember correctly, they were pulled out eventually, not capped.

They would all be baby teeth at that point. Why cap when they would soon fall out anyway?

Yes, he’d be losing those teeth in a couple years, anyway. Why put him thru that procedure?

In Memphis it’s normal to see kids entering kindergarten with gold grill caps. The mothers have it done so the other kids will “respect” my boy. I would think a dentist should be arrested and charged for doing that?

The board also determined that no Valleygate dentists or dental personnel had been involved in administering anesthesia or sedation to the toddler.

Why is a two-year-old going through a dental procedure that involves anesthesia? Especially at a dentists' office?

He looks well cared for. Dentist probably recommended it; we have to wait and see. Just tragic.

What kind of dentist would even agree to carry out such a procedure? Bizarre.

they specialize in administering general anesthesia by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, NOT by MD anesthesiologists ...

ALWAYS insist that general anesthesia be administered and monitored by an anesthesiologist certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or The American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS), with the ABA considered the “gold standard”.

To become certified, a physician must complete medical school and an anesthesiology residency program, then pass a comprehensive examination. Board certification is a valuable asset in the job market, indicating a high level of competency to patients and employers.

Certifying Bodies

The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA): The most recognized and respected certifying body for anesthesiologists in the United States, offering a rigorous process that serves as a benchmark for quality care.

The American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS): Another option for board certification, with its own Board of Certification in Anesthesiology (BCA) that follows established general and specific requirements.

How to Become Certified (General Steps)

Medical Education: Complete medical school, followed by a four-year anesthesiology residency program.

Pass the Examination: After residency, a physician is eligible to sit for the ABA examination, or the BCA exam if pursuing that certification.

Receive Certification: Passing the certification exam demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills to become a board-certified anesthesiologist.

Why Board Certification Matters

Patient Trust: Patients look to board certification as a sign of a physician’s expertise in providing safe, high-quality care.

Professional Competitiveness: Board-certified anesthesiologists are more competitive in the job market compared to those without certification.
Demonstrated Expertise: The certification process verifies a physician’s in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and anesthesia equipment and monitoring.

My niece had to have her four front teeth pulled at about that age and she was in no way abused.

Some people just have teeth that go bad very easily.

Her younger sister had no problems at all.

My nephew needed his teeth cap at age two.

Family history of soft teeth combined with breastfeeding to sleep.

DENTIST, n. A prestidigitator who, putting metal into your mouth, pulls coins out of your pocket.-Ambrose Bierce

In this case it wasn’t metal and the pocket was likely the dole, but the sentiment is the same.

I looked it up and apparently it’s no uncommon but the reason is right back on the parents that let the teeth get that way to begin with... asinine.

We had to get one of our youngest son’s baby teeth capped.
we lived in Hawaii at the time where the water was not flouridated.
We had given him vitamins with flouride from birth but he got cavities anyway because we allowed him to have a milk bottle at bedtime.
He was only around 2 years old at the time, but I don’t think the pedodontist used anesthetic, he only restrained him with a sheet.
There was quite a bit of commotion and protest but we waited in the outer office and let the professionals handle it.
They put a stainless steel cap on one front tooth and a little filling in another.
He was a very headstrong and adventurous toddler, but after that experience we finally got him to give up the bottle by telling him that the “tooth doctor” said so.
He had great respect for the tooth doctor.
