President Trump and top health officials Monday said pregnant women should not take acetaminophen for pain relief due to a potential link to autism.
Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol, one of the most widely used medications in the world.
“Taking Tylenol is not good,” Trump said during a White House announcement.
Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will begin updating the label on acetaminophen and will begin notifying physicians that Tylenol “can be associated with a very increased risk of autism.”
“All pregnant women should talk to their doctors for more information about limiting the use of this medication while pregnant. So ideally, you don’t take it at all, but if you have to, you can’t tough it out … probably, you’re going to end up doing it,” Trump said.
Tylenol has been one of the only over-the-counter pain medications for pregnant women that is considered safe. Other options like ibuprofen or aspirin can increase risks of birth defects.
Experts say there are multiple causes of autism, and the increase in diagnoses is more likely due to improved detection.
“Despite recent unfounded claims, there’s no clear evidence linking prudent use to issues with fetal development,” it added.
Major medical societies, including the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM), advise recommend that pregnant women consult with health providers before taking acetaminophen.
“At this time, the weight of scientific evidence that acetaminophen use during pregnancy causes an increased risk for autism or ADHD is simply inconclusive,” SMFM President Sindhu Srinivas said.

There are two studies, from Harvard and from Mount Sinai, which are far from universally accepted.
Meanwhile, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists finds no credible scientific link that Tylenol causes autism.
That’s fine, you can cite alternative studies.
But you said they cited no evidence. That is a bald-faced lie.
Your credibility is zero.
It sounds like ten thousand cicadas reeeing over on 4chan pol
It doesn’t work for me, nor does advil. Aspirin is a superior product to me.
I’ve been in the hospital several times in last ten years. They always push Tylenol, it does nothing for me.
Yeah let’s go with the knee jerk Trump hating a-holes at the shill. Ladies go ahead and load up on Tylenol if you are pregnant what have you to lose
Miami NeverTrump. A Meatball POS.
He’s a Meatball POS.
Gee, wonder if they recommend acetaminophen for pregnant mothers in India and China?
He’s hated Trump since the Meatball lost. All he does is post NeverTrump garbage.
You’ll also notice that he’s a freep-loading troll whose name ain’t on the donors board.
I’m one. A glass of water with Tylenol or a glass of water alone both give me no pain killing results.
Tylenol is around for people like me who have a blood pressure pill or another Rx pill that says to refrain from Advil and Motrin or Aleve.
Thank goodness I can still take aspirin.
Good luck buying Tylenol or Advil in China. They don't even sell aspirin OTC. It's either Chinese herbal medicine or go to the doctor - for a prescription much milder than anything they will give you in the USA.
It’s not that both sides don’t want proof. There is no way to get proof. There is a way to get some evidence but that study would never be approved.
A well controlled experimental study would be needed. Half the pregnant women would be given a placebo and the other half given tylenol. That wouldn’t provide proof but it certainly would provide good information. We would never allow that kind of study to happen - at least in this country.
RE: Gee, wonder if they recommend acetaminophen for pregnant mothers in India and China?
But in India and China their primitive folk medicine (Ayurvedic in India) sometimes has animal or human urine among its ingredients. Some Ayurvedic remedies in India include animal dung. Gomutra ark ingredient (digestion) has cow urine.
“Urine from healthy cows has been found to contain at least 14 types of harmful bacteria, including Escherichia coli (E. coli), which can cause stomach infections.”
Once in a while a list of possible causes of health problem flareups include Chinese potions said to be remedies. Also some contain mercury and arsenic (yum).

I THINK the mother’s use of Tylenol messes with the baby’s ability to take in the folic acid that it needs.

That was also brought up in the press conference.
Doctors used to make commercials for cigarettes, Nathaniel and Joseph. So stick that in your bong and smoke it, a**holes.
No, that’s not your call.
