The U.S. Capitol has been considered the most suitable place for the nation to pay final tribute to its most eminent citizens by having their remains lay in state (in the case of government officials and military officers) or in honor (in the case of private citizens).
If his family agrees, then I believe that both houses of Congress should authorize the Archetect of the Capitol (AOC) SHOULD arrange for a ceremony that honors Charlie Kirk in the Rotunda.
When the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) is notified that a ceremony will occur, teams are coordinated across the Capitol campus and a commitment to excellence ensures that no detail is overlooked.
Those Who Have Lain in State or in Honor in the U.S. Capitol The prominent individuals who have been so honored are listed below. These figures have lain in state, or in honor, in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda unless otherwise specified (indicated by an asterisk *). In addition to the Rotunda, other areas such as National Statuary Hall, the Old Supreme Court Chamber, the entrance to the House Chamber and the East Central Front Portico have been used for those who have lain in state or in honor.

While I liked Charlie and what happened is horrible, it’s time to lay him to rest.
There is no need for him to go to DC. I think this event in AZ is big enough.
This has the potential to turn into a Wellstone funeral.
Isn’t it a little late to orchestrate that in terms of the body itself?
And, unfortunately, their heroes will be of the ilk of George Floyd and Al Sharpton.
Exactly.
I agree with you both.
We’ve had young men Charlie’s age die in combat, and they weren’t all honored in the Capitol.
The memorial today will be very important, and along with all that has taken place since his death, sufficient.
Hard to disagree with that.
BUT
When Bobby Kennedy died his body was put on a train and respects paid.
I think it’s safe to say that it would not pass Congress any way. The democrats and many republicans would vote it down. Would be nice if something like that could be done.
I hope his family does not agree. Today’s event is fine. Time to put Charlie to rest and let his mission continue.
Look at the list. Majority are veterans
I agree. Charlie Kirk can be properly honored in AZ at an enormous funeral televised to the public today.
Absurd!
Most were notable for other reasons as well.
Again, many have died in actual combat and were not honored this way.
I agree. This is really getting excessive. The superlatives are flying everywhere. I hear tributes that equate him with saints. He was a good guy, but there have been a lot of wonderful people. Let him rest in peace.
What is the family and TP request it?
Sounds like this is gonna be a 100% bad idea.
Charlie was a good man who inspired many. Saying that, he was a private citizen, non military. If you put him in the capital, some dem president is going to someone like Hunter Biden in. Be very careful of the precedents we set. His body was already flown on AF2. We’re stretching the role of government for a private citizen.
I don’t disagree but you might find how the nation mourned for Lincoln. After lying in state in the Capitol, his casket was escorted by train on a long trip to Illinois. It is an interesting comparison. It showed how the whole nation (well the North) wanted to pay their respects to the slain President.
Wiki: After Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, a three-week series of events was held to mourn the death and memorialize the life of the 16th president of the United States. Funeral services, a procession, and a lying in state were first held in Washington, D.C., then a funeral train transported Lincoln’s remains 1,654 miles (2,662 km) through seven states for burial in Springfield, Illinois. Never exceeding 20 mph, the train made several stops in principal cities and state capitals for processions, orations, and additional lyings in state. Many Americans viewed the train along the route and participated in associated ceremonies.
I agree with you.
I don’t mean to diminish Kirk’s value by any means, but I wouldn’t make him a figure comparable to Lincoln in the life of the Nation.
Charlie Kirk is the modern Socrates.
