While I liked Charlie and what happened is horrible, it’s time to lay him to rest.
There is no need for him to go to DC. I think this event in AZ is big enough.
This has the potential to turn into a Wellstone funeral.
And, unfortunately, their heroes will be of the ilk of George Floyd and Al Sharpton.
I agree. Charlie Kirk can be properly honored in AZ at an enormous funeral televised to the public today.
I don’t disagree but you might find how the nation mourned for Lincoln. After lying in state in the Capitol, his casket was escorted by train on a long trip to Illinois. It is an interesting comparison. It showed how the whole nation (well the North) wanted to pay their respects to the slain President.
Wiki: After Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, a three-week series of events was held to mourn the death and memorialize the life of the 16th president of the United States. Funeral services, a procession, and a lying in state were first held in Washington, D.C., then a funeral train transported Lincoln’s remains 1,654 miles (2,662 km) through seven states for burial in Springfield, Illinois. Never exceeding 20 mph, the train made several stops in principal cities and state capitals for processions, orations, and additional lyings in state. Many Americans viewed the train along the route and participated in associated ceremonies.
"Never take your foot off the gas!" some on our side are currently saying.
Yet if you never take your foot off the gas, you risk driving over a cliff.
I saw an article yesterday where there's a petition to put Charlie Kirk's favorite drink on the Starbuck's menu.
That's simply too much. Name a street after him in his hometown. That's fine. Heck, erect a statue or two (George Floyd has them). That's fine as well.
I just think it's important to know when to put your foot on the gas and when to throttle back. Push it too far, and we risk minimizing Kirk's brutal, violent murder by commodifying it.
