H-1B Visa Fee Hike May Make The Great American Dream Too Expensive To Achieve
NDTV ^ | 9/20/2025 | Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi: United States President Donald Trump hiking H-1B non-immigrant visa fees to a steep USD 100,000 would affect thousands of Indian students with the American dream.

It will sharply reduce low and mid-paid H-1B hiring, concentrate approvals on senior and high-value roles, and force employers and employees to shift to alternative pathways, or restructure staffing models.

Immediate effects are already visible in travel advisories and market reactions; medium-term effects will reshape sourcing strategies in tech, professional services, and higher education.

The hike would mainly affect those aspiring for a middle or entry-level jobs, where the early career median wage ranges between USD 65,000-80,000 per annum and that for mid-career about USD 100,000-122,000 per annum.

These figures are from the same document quoted in the President's 'Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers' order.

For those at high levels, up to the top-of-the-stair position, the employer may not be inconvenienced in paying the sum -- perhaps sharing a part of it with the employee.

But a new Satya Nadella or another Sundar Pichai needs to rise from the ranks. The entry route may now lie almost sealed.

The $100,000 fee is an annual fee.

Indians can fix their own sh*it hole instead turning this country into one.

The motel thing was because of SBA loans that they got and then imported their families so they could get SBA loans. Maybe it would have been a better idea to give those loans to Americans

H1B was always sold as a visa for people with special expertise not available in the US. Instead it turned into cheap low level coders and tech support.

My suggestion was to turn it entirely into an auction system where companies would bid for the slots instead of the curent lottery system. But a fixed rate above the low level pay works too.

We want top researchers in chip design, not someone paid $30k to tell you to reboot your system and try again.

Not that the foreigners are bad people but there was(is) an obvious desire and plan to replace the 1960ish existing American population ,and big corporation,tax-exempt foundations, mainline churches and the government have all worked to make it happen.

The $100,000 fee is way too high.

The base fee should be around $5,000.

Then there should be an annual inverse salary fee:
1. 10% of the salary amount less than $200,000, plus
2. 20% of the salary amount less than $120,000.

If the salary is $80,000, the annual inverse salary fee would be $12,000 plus $8,000.

The minimum salary amount should be 120% of the most recent DoL salary survey average for the degree and (prorated) years of experience.

The H-1Bs should be bid out and awarded based on the salary premium to the minimum.

The number of winning bids should start at 1,000 and go up by 20 if the average premium increases and down by 20 if the average premium decreases, but to no less than 500 nor more than 2,000.

A bid fee of say $2,000 should be charged to help ensure bids are genuine.

There would be no legal requirement to search for an American candidate. The idea that a qualified American can’t be found is almost always bogus.

For each employer: total H-1B salaries < FICA tax paid in a prior tax year going back up to four years

That would limit H-1Bs to about 8% of employees.

American kids need to sure they have a future before signing for student loans.

New IPO companies might merge with a struggling older company to get their FICA tax minimum, allowing most employees of the older company to stay employed.

First - the American Dream is for Americans. India needs to work on their own problems and create an ‘Indian Dream’... we can not be ‘the dream’ of the world.

Second, this system allows American companies to hire ‘the best the world has to offer’ IF they pay the price. This move by Trump stops American companies from bringing in cheap labor. Good for President Trump.

And third - President Trump needs to do the same reform on the American school system that he did on the ‘Department of Defense’ and DUMP ALL THE LEFT WING sexual weido social ‘experiments’ etc. The job of the military is to fight wars not to make liberal wet dreams come true.

The job of the American School system is to educate our kids NOT To teach pronouns, group think, sexual porn, comminism, gay rights, women’s rights or any of the other left wing crap. Any school ‘celebratibng’ any sexual kink should have it’s doors closed and the principal fired...

We can’t be first in the world if our young women graduate from high school as mean ‘with attitude’ bimbos and our young men defeated by the hate from left wing ‘teachers’ about their toxic masculinity... NONE of that crap belongs in our schools if we want to compete.

An H-1B should not ever serve as a chain migration anchor - at most children and a spouse.

There probably should be an annual age fee if the worker is less than 50 years old, perhaps say $200 per year less than 50 years of age.

All you H-1B wannabees. Go pursue the Indian dream in India. We have enough Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi immigrants. India beats out China for the world’s most population. I resent being swamped by these two Asian mega-nations. Half of India would move here tomorrow if they were allowed to.

Australia is worse. On a per capita basis the get more Indians and Chinese jamming in there. Legally, all courtesy of their socialist ruling classes.

The fee flushes the disingenuousness of the Hiring companies’ motives regarding the so called “lack of competent American workers” right out into the open. And it was done on a Friday night at the end of the weekly news cycle..hahahaha!
The real screaming starts Monday! Look at protests incoming from the usual sources...I’ll bet even the “Warming Earthers” will try to tie in Climate change with the raising of the H1B fees!

Unlike Trump’s proposed blank check for college graduate work visas, I would annually limit them to 1/10,000nds of a state’s last completed census count, also approved by the state’s lieutenant governor, and limited to no more than 80% of those nominations submitted to that person, and in such a manner that the lieutenant governor has to exercise genuine discretion.

The lieutenant governor typically is less politically vulnerable and has more time for scrutiny. It would be asking too much of Newsom to screen ~4,000 applications annually.

Mississippi would have less demand for computer scientists, but greater demand for educational & medical people to supply unpopular rural areas.

The US has about 330 million people, so that would be ~33,000 college graduates annually.
