H-1B Visa Fee Hike May Make The Great American Dream Too Expensive To Achieve
NDTV ^ | 9/20/2025 | Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi: United States President Donald Trump hiking H-1B non-immigrant visa fees to a steep USD 100,000 would affect thousands of Indian students with the American dream.

It will sharply reduce low and mid-paid H-1B hiring, concentrate approvals on senior and high-value roles, and force employers and employees to shift to alternative pathways, or restructure staffing models.

Immediate effects are already visible in travel advisories and market reactions; medium-term effects will reshape sourcing strategies in tech, professional services, and higher education.

The hike would mainly affect those aspiring for a middle or entry-level jobs, where the early career median wage ranges between USD 65,000-80,000 per annum and that for mid-career about USD 100,000-122,000 per annum.

These figures are from the same document quoted in the President's 'Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers' order.

For those at high levels, up to the top-of-the-stair position, the employer may not be inconvenienced in paying the sum -- perhaps sharing a part of it with the employee.

But a new Satya Nadella or another Sundar Pichai needs to rise from the ranks. The entry route may now lie almost sealed.

Why is the American Dream exclusive to immigrants?

Millions of US citizens wish to better their lot in life and achieve the American Dream.

Almost nothing, honest.

Big Tech arranged things so there was almost no penalty to hiring foreigners over the American worker.

The Indian H1B invaders don’t even want to assimilate. Now it’s time for them to leave America and go home.

Based on what I’ve read, usually around several thousand dollars at most (and never above $10,000).

Many on freerepublic suggested this idea as a way for the Trump administration to regulate the use of H1B visas as intended.

It appears the idea has been adopted. Probably the same idea was conceived in many places at about the same time.

The “American Dream” is for AMERICANS! Unfortunately Americans have been unable to achieve it for years because the politicians have been giving it away to NON-AMERICANS!

So; I guess they might have to hire more U.S. Citizens and these Indians can enrich India for a change. In another vein, why do Indians own almost every Quickie Mart and Motel that I come across; are they doing this on our dime?

So now, the American Dream goes back to Americans. Hmm? How is that bad?

The American Dream is for Americans. If you want an Indian Dream....build it for yourselves in India. It is not good for America nor fair to American workers to undercut them with a flood of cheap foreign labor. That is not the free market. That is rigging the market to favor corporations and hurt the American middle class.

Claude says:

I need to get more specific information about the current standard H1B fees, as the search results show both regular fees and a recent proposed $100,000 fee change. Let me search for the current standard fees.Based on the current information, here are the H1B visa fees for 2025:

## Current Standard H1B Fees (as of 2025):

**H1B Electronic Registration Fee**: $215 per beneficiary (increased from $10 in March 2025)

**Form I-129 Base Filing Fee**:
- Employers with fewer than 25 employees: $460
- Employers with 25+ employees: $780

**Additional Required Fees** (depending on employer type):
- **ACWIA Fee**: $1,500 (for employers with 25+ employees)
- **Anti-Fraud Fee**: $500
- **Asylum Program Fee**: $600
- **Public Law 114-113 Fee**: $4,000 (for certain large employers)

**Optional Premium Processing Fee**: $2,805

## Recent Development:
**Important Note**: President Trump signed a proclamation that would add a new $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications, but this appears to be a proposed change that hasn’t been implemented yet.

## Example Total Cost:
For a large company filing with premium processing, the total could be around $10,185 (including all applicable fees).

The exact total depends on your employer’s size, type, and whether you choose premium processing. New fees from the H.R. 1 Reconciliation Bill took effect for applications postmarked on or after July 22, 2025.

If the skill is so rare and so unique that there are no Americans available with it so that the company is forced to enlist overseas help, I am sure the company will consider the 100k as a small and very worthwhile price.

On the otherhand if the companies were just trying to save money at the expense of Americans who could do the job, perhaps they ought be too embarrassed to complain.

I suggested $50K per H1b per year. $100K is even better.

Its basically the same thing as a tariff on goods.

What makes Satya Nadella or Sundar Pichai special other than their our our new media constantly gushing over them. Hundreds of Americans can do as good or better than them.

Yes! My husband and I tried to buy a motel that was really run down. We tried to get a loan using the VA loan from the government. We planned on renovating and running it ourselves. This was years ago. We were turned down and a couple fresh from India got a government loan and bought that motel. Why? What made them a better risk than us? And this was happening all over the state.

I dont care about some indians desire to come over here and rape our healthcare, education services. Do it in india. We have massive unemployment of American born citizens who lost their jobs directly because of these indians. They have also driven up home cost by placing ridiculous bids on houses and taking iver entire communities. Plus they are importing their demonic worship and building temples that scar our landscapes.

In business they are uncreative thinkers who merely copy paste ideas and code.

Lastly, they spoil their kids and thosekids are so entitled and racists. Ive personally heard gangs of them 10-15 year olds screaming racists things as they walk through the neighborhood.
