Foreign workers, starting September 21, can’t enter the U.S. on an H-1B visa unless their employer’s petition (the paperwork requesting the visa) includes an extra $100,000 payment to the federal government. This fee must be renewed and paid annually, according to United States Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
-snip-
Nationally, there are approximately 730,000 active H-1B holders as of early 2025.
-snip-
Washington currently ranks 4th nationally for H-1B activity. The state, particularly the Seattle metropolitan area, is a major hub for the U.S. tech industry, with companies like Amazon and Microsoft relying heavily on H-1B visas to hire skilled foreign workers in fields like software engineering and AI.
The Technology Sector is an estimated $180 billion industry in Washington state with approximately 25,838 Labor Condition Applications (a metric for H-1B positions) in 2025—Amazon alone secured over 10,000 approvals and Microsoft more than 5,000. This concentration of H-1B visa holders means that Washington state could face a disproportionate effect because of the Proclamation compared to the national average.
-snip-
This new annual $100,000 fee, per H-1B visa worker, imposed on employers could possibly even impact the housing sector as H-1B visa workers who are laid off because of this new cost burden on employers, return to their country of origin. However, college graduates and new homebuyers may benefit.

The extermination of the Ukrainian army is going to be on the heads of fecesheels like mucusmaximus.
The Russians aren’t fooling around - unlike Zelya the Fool and his cheerboy clownusmaximus.
Neocon clowns gonna clown.
Sounds like you’re gay for India, too.
The neocon fool clownusmaximus is all about driving India into the arms of Russia, now that the neocons have almost finished with the task of driving China into the arms of Russia.
Bully! Bully, I say!
I have no problems with addressing the H1-B issue - but the way jerkusmaximus is going about it is jingoist BS.
Works for me!
Yeah, not always, but often, Indian managers will only hire other Indians. No “diversity” requirement for them!
If they are SMART and have COMMON SENSE, then "NO" it would be STUPID to start a fight.. Trump will only shove it farther down their throat to teach them a lesson.
The $100,000 fee is way too high. I think $20,000 would be more appropriate.
I don’t want the Treasury to lose federal income tax revenue if a US company goes to remote working.
And I’m not above poaching foreign talent provided it is top-notch.
$100k per H1-B holder, per year.
Plus a $100k filing/application fee.
Plus $100k to enter the U.S.
AnD I have read, but not verified, minimum $150k salary.
The NASDAQ finished the day up half a point so doesn’t look like the tech sector cares that much
“but often, Indian managers will only hire other Indians.”
HR had better talk to them before the government talks to HR.
Because that is 10,000 employees they can pay a lower wage to than what they would have to pay to an American worker.
foreign talent?
Brilliant move on Trump’s part. Hiring foreigners to take American jobs is going to cost companies $100k per employee per year. Hiring Americans workers is going to be cheaper.
🚨 MICROSOFT'S INTERNAL H-1B GUIDANCE JUST LEAKED
Microsoft tells employees:
- If in US: "Remain in the U.S. for the foreseeable future" to "avoid being denied reentry"
- H-4 dependents: Also stay in US (even though proclamation doesn't mention them)
- If abroad: "Strongly…— Atal Agarwal 💜🚐🌍 (@atalovesyou) September 20, 2025

Agree with all your points here.
Add to that being 60 years old. I went 8 months between contracts. Then I got hired for a three year contract with no interview. Just my resume’ and the reccomendation of my headhunter.
I’m effing lucky. Retiring after this contract.

The Left and their enviro-psychos have no problem with arbitrary policies that drive the price of conventional energy through the roof. $12/gallon gas? Unaffordable heating oil? 25% inflation? Just necessary steps toward climate utopia.
Now we have policies designed to actually protect the jobs and welfare of US citizens by making it LESS expensive to “do the right thing.” Will the big H1B employers hold to their foreigners-first hiring practices, or bend to the dollar?
