Cops charge driver in hit-and-run that killed 7 geese

Police have charged a driver accused of fatally hitting seven geese over the summer.

The driver has been charged with seven counts of animal cruelty in addition to violations of the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife regulations, the Spotswood Police Department said in a Friday statement. The driver will also face multiple motor vehicle violations.

Police did not publicize the personโ€™s identity.

A driver hit the birds at 6:45 p.m. on July 14 on Devoe Avenue near Devoe Lake. When officers arrived, the driver had already left the area, authorities said. Investigators worked for nearly two months to identify a suspect.

Geese are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and any intentional harm caused to them may be a violation of both state and federal regulations.

A man convicted of running over five geese in a parking lot in Toms River in 2021 faced up to 90 days in jail, but was instead sentenced to two years of probation.

Anarcho tyranny in action.

https://chroniclesmagazine.org/view/anarcho-tyranny-u-s-a/

Sam Francis explains:

“This condition, which in some of my columns I have called โ€œanarcho-tyranny,โ€ is essentially a kind of Hegelian synthesis of what appear to be dialectical opposites: the combination of oppressive government power against the innocent and the law-abiding and, simultaneously, a grotesque paralysis of the ability or the will to use that power to carry out basic public duties such as protection or public safety.

And, it is characteristic of anarcho-tyranny that it not only fails to punish criminals and enforce legitimate order but also criminalizes the innocent.”

That’s a thought isn’t it? Ever since women have entered law enforcement there has been a decided lack of judgment apparent. Coincidence?

A friend of mine has a home on a lake. He says he cannot mow within 20’ of the lake because of the goose crap. He said his lawn tapers to the lake and if it has rained recently, any closed than 20’ and he would just slide into the lake on land that has been “greased” with goose poop.

I hit one in a side glancing blow at around 8,000 feet in a Falcon 20, going about 300KTS. It peeled the sheet metal from just behind the cabin door for about five feet. The sheet metal shrapnel got ingested into the engine, along with said goose. We had no idea the extent of the damage until we landed. The passengers only knew as they came out and down the stairs. “No big deal”, right?

Cut garden hose into big snake lengths and leave them in the grass by the water. It keeps them away.

About 10 years ago I got a big ovation from a bunch of college students waiting at a bus stop. I was at a light, a flock of geese and goslings were crossing, the light changed and they were about 2/3 - 1/3 on each side. I threw it in park, turned on the flashers, hopped out, stopped traffic, and got the flock all on the same side of the street. As I’m hopping back in the car the bus stop students about 40-50 yards away were applauding.

It was a fun moment!

Years back, I was attacked by 3 of em while on a walking trail around a town pond. One of em actually managed to get close enough to bite me while I was trying to get away from em. After the bite, let’s just say it didn’t end well...for that one. The local Karens plastered “wanted posters” everywhere of “the carnage” with a $1000 reward for the arresst and conviction. Needless to say, I never told a soul what happned back then, and it took awhile for that bite bruise to heal up.
I don’t like geese.

Are drivers in NJ instructed to call an ambulance when they hit critters on the road as part of licensing?

I’ve also heard that, if you let the rushes grow at the lakes edge, they won’t stay there because they can see what’s on the shore line. If that fails, a 12 gauge at midnight does the trick, too. (Too dangerous to shoot in the air...aim at the geese.)

Best to keep your head on a swivel. There could be a stool pigeon looking g to wet his beak and feather his won nest by turning you in

And why would someone do that intentionally, anyways?

Good question, those suckers can do a lot of damage to your vehicle.

Around here, on the 4th of July, we have fireworks that scare geese across a large, 6-lane highway. Considering they didn’t want to fly around the fireworks, they cross on foot and always get hit by semis. Every. Year.

It’s awful, but the city and state don’t seem to want to make any changes.
