Coca-Cola rebrands products in Germany amid US image crisis
Deutsche Welle ^ | 09/08/2025 | Dirk Kaufmann

For decades, US firms have enjoyed a strong foothold in Germany, particularly in the country’s western regions, which were under the control of the Western Allies after World War II. In the immediate postwar years, US cigarettes were so highly prized on the German black market that they effectively served as currency. […]

Today, however, the climate has shifted. The image of the US in Germany has taken a major beating, raising questions about how US companies can maintain their reputation. Some US firms are now actively marketing their products as “Made in Germany.” […]

Coca-Cola, perhaps more than any other US brand, appears concerned about being tied to the US government’s politics. The Atlanta-based company recently launched a “Made in Germany” campaign in Germany, which highlights the names of employees such as Daniel, Heike, Jana, Jessy, and Muhammed. Each is featured under the slogan: “Made by [employee name]. Made in Germany.”

“The campaign aims to show Coca-Cola’s deep roots in Germany,” the company told DW in a statement, noting that the company had been part of German business and society for almost 100 years.

According to the company, many Germans are unaware that most Coca-Cola sold in the country is already bottled locally.

Given the current political climate, the move is widely seen as an attempt to distance the brand from US politics. …

It’s not different than foreign companies bragging about building things here. Always gotta market to the locals.

The Europeans never begged us to save them. In particular, Germany actually declared war on us.

I think you’re mistaken. Churchill worked hard to get Roosevelt to bring America into the War, and de Gaul welcomed US help with open arms. And throughout Europe the people welcomed American rescue.

Re: "Germany actually declared war on the USA."

I have often wondered what 20th Century history would have looked like if Hitler had restrained himself and not declared war on the USA in December 1941.

Without a two front war to worry about, the Germans would have fought Stalin and the USSR to a stalemate, on Russian territory, even against massive USA logistic assistance.

On the other hand, I some what accept the theory that Hitler was ultimately motivated by his psychopathic Jew Hatred.

No telling where that compulsion might have eventually led him.

I’m not mistaken about Germany’s declaration of war on the US on December 11, 1941.

Peripetchikoff: No formula, NO DEAL!
C.R. MacNamara: OK, NO DEAL!
Borodenko: We do not need you! If we want Coca-cola, we invent it ourselves!
C.R. MacNamara: Oh, yeah? In 1956 you flew a bottle of Coke to a secret laboratory in Sverdlosk. A dozen of your top chemists went nuts trying to analyze the ingredients. Right?
Mishkin: No comment!
C.R. MacNamara: And in 1958, you planted two undercover agents in Atlanta to steal the formula. And what happened? They both defected! And now they’re successful businessmen in Florida packaging instant borscht. Right?
Peripetchikoff: No comment!
C.R. MacNamara: Last year you put out a cockamamie imitation “Kremlin-kola!” You tried it out in the satellite countries, but even the Albanians wouldn’t drink it. They used it for SHEEP DIP! RIGHT?
Mishkin: No comment!
C.R. MacNamara: So either get down to business or get off the pot!

"We really need to have a “What are your reading now? thread."

There used to be one that appeared every-so-often. Can't remember the Freeper who posted it though.

Here's another book I highly recommend, if you're interested. I'm reading it as well at the time:

"Legacy of Tears: The History of the CIA" by Tim Weiner, a former agent. He doesn't mince any words when it comes to ripping the agency apart from the time of its inception. What they've been allowed to get away with unchecked all these years is disgusting, and I'm only on page 136, Chapter 14. It's a well-sourced book...many chapters notes.

One thing I hadn't known was that Allen Dulles was head of the CIA when Kennedy was in office. I probably didn't pay attention at the time. I was only a teenager. Dulles was in charge of the Bay of Pigs invasion that went awry. It wasn't the first time things he planned went south, but he remained in power until Kennedy fired him on November 28, 1961. He lied repeatedly to every President he served, was a known womanizer and had a dislike for the Kennedys. I never tied his name to the assassination of the Kennedy brothers, but I can see an arrogant bastard like him being involved. LBJ appointed him to the Warren Commission. What better way to cover up the involvement of the CIA in JFK's murder? He died on January 29, 1969, of influenza, complicated by pneumonia, at the age of 75, in Georgetown, D.C.
